  • abz swap into c4?

Hello all. New member here and I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct section. Anyways. I'm wondering if anyone here swapped the 4.2 abz engine into a Audi c4 chassis?

Different engine mounts the oil filter area. No plug and play.

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing that I would need custom engine mounts made? What do you mean by oil filter area? I'm guessing that has to be relocated? Is there any other issues that I would run into?

Use a AEC bottom end and then use heads etc from ABZ.

I did a google search of what the AEC came in and unfortunately that engine was never available here in America. We do have the ABH engines available here but in limited quantity. There is ton more ABZ engines available compared to the ABH. So that's the reason why I'm looking to do a ABZ swap since that engine is way easier to find.

You could use the internals in a ABH block.
Pistons have little bit more compression and better piston rings.

There are OEM mounts for an ABH in a C4 so that's the easiest plug and play solution.

See this thread from Doug Wells who built one hell of a V8 C4:

I did a build using ABH and ABZ bits too and put it in a '90 coupe.

there are pros and cons for each setup. To use an ABZ and its ECU you need a 60-2 signal which may or may not be easy depending on your flywheel options. To stick with ABH you would be running distributors or you could do as I did and use standalone VEMS.

                good luck!

ABZ internals. When the cylinder of the ABH is in good condition go for it.
Flywheel you need some special solution for ABZ Motronic.
