Audi S2 VIN Inquiry

Hey guys, im looking to buy an S2 went to see one already car looks great I did notice something strange. The vin on the firewall says WAUZZZ8BZMAxxxxxx and the one on the windshield and the rear sticker say WAUGE58B6MAxxxxxx those last 6 digits are exactly the same on both vins. Is this something normal? I’ve seen this happen on porsche 924 but not sure if same applies here

Did you check it against the V5 and was it in the fellas name ?

A 1991 car wouldn't normally have the windscreen vin number display. The ZZZ is an Ingolstadt identifier. The GE5 would suggest an import of some sort. So to answer your question, it's not normal

Mikes2 thanks for the info! Could you explain a little more what this import could be? Im just afraid its not an S2 and puzzled by the double vin. I saw the car drives fantastic and heavily modded which is what im looking for but just want to have the story as straight as possible

Here is what happens with some porsches from the same years.
When Porsche stamps the tub VIN number (in the trunk) (in this case would be the firewall vin) they don't know its destination yet. When they stamp the rest of the car they replace the ZZZ with the correct letters for its destination country.

That kind of makes sense as it never originally sold there. So the vin on the sticker and under the windscreen are to satisfy the regulations there to get it registered.
