    Audi 80 driveshaft

Hi all, My mechanic has just told me I need a new front driver side drive shaft for my b4 audi 80 tdi and can't find one through his suppliers. I don't suppose anyone has one for sale? Many thanks!

Often mechanics replace a complete shaft when it is just a joint that is required, why I don’t know as individual cv joints are readily available.

Yeah I hear you Crasher. I think he mentioned that the gist of it is that you can't have cars waiting up on the ramp blocking other jobs, and sometimes when you replace the cv you find that the drive shaft splines are worn, so he'd rather have the whole unit so if he disassembles to do the job he has everything he potentially might need so it doesn't choke up the ramp / other jobs waiting.

I have been replacing CV joints for 43 years and never seen a worn spline yet.

Well you can add another one to the huge list - the drive shafts were fine just as you suspected. Sorry for the false alarm and thank you everyone for all of the help. Would definitely struggle to keep the car going without this place.
