Where Can I Find a Reliable Audi A4 Workshop Repair Service Manual?

    Hey everyone,

I recently purchased a used Audi A4 and I am looking for a comprehensive workshop repair service manual to help me with maintenance and repairs. I want something that covers engine diagnostics, transmission servicing, electrical wiring diagrams, and suspension work.

I have done basic DIY repairs before but need detailed step by step guidance specific to the A4 model. Should I go for an official Audi workshop manual or are third party options like Haynes or Bentley Publishers equally reliable?

Any recommendations from experienced Audi owners or mechanics would be greatly appreciated.

What platform A4/model have you got? If it's a B5 then a Hayne's would suffice for general servicing/mechanical work and should have all the wiring diagrams but probably won't cover the transmission other than changing it's oil. They also don't tend to cover quattro models so if you can find an official Audi factory manual on a PDF that would be what I'd go for, the Bentley manuals are great though they normally only cover US market cars.
      1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.
      1992 C4 2.8 Avant quattro
      1994 MTM RS2.
      1998 B5 TDI quattro Sport.
      2000 B5 TQS.

The official Audi workshop manual would be best if you can find a copy floating about on the internet. Or you can buy a gash copy of ELSA WIN usually bundled with ETKA and set it up on an old dedicated Windows PC/laptop. That will give you parts and workshop manual information across the whole range of VAG cars up to a point in time. How legitimate and how reliable it would be I can't vouch for or recommend.

There was a Bentley for the A4 and it was very comprehensive. I bought the version on a CD decades ago to give me the wiring diagrams for my climate control conversion for the S2. That would be my recommendation if it's still available.

Good luck with any Haynes manual; it'll be alright for the basic mechanical stuff but the wiring diagrams will fail at the first hurdle and you'll need Bentley or originals for that.
