    V6 Coupe Advice

    Hi guys,

I have a mate who is interested in a V6 Coupe quattro. It looks quite a nice example, a light mettallic green that looks surprisingly nice and about 120K on the clock. It's a 1996, N reg.
I've offered him as much advice as I can with some of the S2 niggles and have had a good look through here as I know that some members have had them (and written them off in Devon). I haven't found too much to be honest.

Is there any other advice that anyone could provide??

    Many thanks in advance.

    Dan

    Now now....
Is it the 2.8 or 2.6 and is it Quattro?
Out of all the things on the V6...
    I suppose check the electrics...
Ask how much oil the v6 drinks aweek or so many miles (how oily does it look in there, mind he prob had the bay cleaned at some point. Also what sort has been used.
As the engine in mine drank a ltr every 3weeks without much useage and half a ltr when doing a full round trip of 500+miles straight driving. V6s are not supposed to drink that much but some goes.
its main *** ache was that everything needed doing. So anyways looking for someone to work on a car was difficult (2.8V6 that was only made for 2years coupeV6Q), parts are very dear and very hard to find for example I replaced the oil cooler pipe and got the last new one from the dealers in the UK, so i was told. Though most parts I had to source myself.

They all seem to drink oil, I think this is due to the low drag piston rings but they also seem prone to leaking from various different places, mine leaks outwards from both head gaskets and did leak from the camshaft seals until I replaced them. I know they also often leak from the valve covers but these are easy to replace. The fuel pipes corrode although I don't know if this is just on the saloons. The cambelt should really be changed every 60k miles but at least every 80k, it is important that the water pump, tensioning and relay rollers have been changed at the same time. If there is a lot of valve noise when the engine is started from cold it is probably the oil check valves which are not expensive to replace but difficult to get to.

If it is a 2.8 check that the throttle valves in the inlet manifold flip open at 4100 rpm.

Brakes and suspension are similar to the S2 so you will know the problems to expect there.

If he wants/ likes it you won't do much to stop him. be prepared though that it may have a few niggles. e.g brakes/ abs/ tyres / bushes/ electrical gremlins / stone chips / ac / airbag/ ..........

still a nice car though. will never be an s2 but performance is respectable, check audifans for more advice

        good luck
