    type85 to S2 conversion?

Hi guys, I'm new here, just registered today.. great site, lots of information! I own a
coupé quattro type85 and have an S2 motor
I'd like to swap it out for my non-turbo 2.2 five cilinder eninge. Now I now it fits, minor adjustments are needed like making room for the airbox, placing the battery to the rear of the car, and replacing one of the rods, but.. has anyone on here done a conversion like that before?

Or does anyone know of any sites that describe a conversion like this? Its bound to be done before, I just can't find them!

    I would appreciate any help.

    Regards,

      :d

I don't know you call it in English, I think its the stabilizer rod? I thought you needed a rod from an urq or 200 turbo, which are bent to clear the downpipe (opposed to the ones on a cq, which are straight).

I'm really curious as to what has to be altered, and what not. Thanks again for the links, any more tips and or links would be greatly appreciated.

Speak to Azman and Wabtheking who have done turbo conversions on their CQ's

Its the steering arm on the side that the downpipe goes down needs to be bent ever so slightly IIRC, what gearbox you going to use? the s2 one or type 85?

IIRC using a 3b/aby engine onto a type 85 gearbox a certain ex member of this site said that a small section of the gearbox needs cutting around the bellhousing to allow this to match up, sure someone will clarify this tho.

if you stick with standard quattro gearbox you'll be fine all the drive shafts will fit perfectly use quattro turbo steering arm on the driver side to clear the downpipe .

I'de like to use the original gearbox if fits, that would be great. I wonder if it holds up to the increased horsepower (and torque). Its a lot more than the standard 136, not to mention when you chip the 20v (later)

The older 016 boxes are stronger than S2 boxes.

From what Ive heard old 016 gearboxes can hold up too 500 hp.
I think Audi used standard urquattro gearboxes for there first rally cars.
I Own a Type 85 Coupe Quattro, but its currently in the garage getting teard apart.

To be clear its a coupé quattro, NOT a urquattro. Don't know if they share the same gearbox.

urq tranny have 3,889 ratio and coupe q have the 4,111.... but they have the 016 box,,, they will fit in the car, AND on the engine. some minor diff are the gearstick and linkage , flywheel, clutch, and innerjoint for the propshaft.....
if the car have 5syl engine the tranny WILL fit all petrol/ diesel IL5 ( v5) v6 vr6 v8,v10. some of the trannys have the bolthole for 4 syl as well....

jogi730 is running nearly 550bhp on his typ85 90Q's original gearbox. Handles the power but the ratios are a little short for that power on a 2.2!
