I love 'em too - an S8 in Black would be mega - with an LPG conversion could be interesting and cheap to run (as long as full petrol running is used when you want it). I think they got manual transmission in Europe but not UK - typical 2nd class treatment again, but I can handle the tiptronic thing - driven enough playstation games in my time.

Stupid question though - is an A8 quattro sports essentially the same as an S8 except that it doesn't carry the official badge of honour ?

They can call me Grandad if they like when I cruise past them in my luxury double-glazed, leather clad, all alloy V8 monster at mighty speeds with a warble and refined whoosh.

the s8 has an extra 40bhp pre facelift and 60 bhp on the facelift, lower gearing, few other slight differences but the sport is a cracking car,the s8 just has the edge in terms of performance and handling

I'll never forget the first time I saw that film and the sight of an S8 4 wheel drifting around a corner.

Nice to see that an A8 is held in such regard here.

For the money you get from your S2 and them big brakes - I'd say you could get an A8/S8 alright and enough leftover for the LPG conversion needed to make it financially viable on a daily basis. Standard A8/S8 is gonna return S2 mileage - which isn't good if you are doing big miles...

Bro used to have a nos'ed up A8 Sport - fantastic motor and he could fling it sideways in ways that shouldn't be possible in such a big car to!

Their is one optional extra you must find, the electric sunroof... When you're away and the sun is shining the sunroof is a solar panel, charging the batteries and keeping the car interior at temperature for your return. Can't remember the actual option name but that's pretty awesome!

Thats nuthin special - the S2 had that option too - no BS - maybe not option on UK cars but definitely for real - its in the owners manual and I have schematics for it with various combinations of aircon. Its a cool feature (no pun) that must've cost a packet - never seen it fitted and only heard of one S2 in Germany (approx) that had it fitted.

I did consider a a8 4.2 before I went for the s2, got a bit worried over the panels because there aluminium repairs would be a pain, that and the liners if they ever went wrong. Apart from that top car

I like the S8 too. If only I had room to keep one.

Exactly what I'm considering at the moment due to a likely lifestyle change (change of jobs = higher mileage at my expense)... A6 or A8 with LPG conversion. Insurance on a A8 4.2Q is silly though - almost twice what I pay for the S2

                                Ck.
Shocked, exhausted, hosed, bushed, dumped, chipped, mounted, filtered, gauged, packed, intermittantly wiped and braked. I mean broken. Now, about the car...
