    Project fever- help!!!

Ok guys, I've got a bit of a dilemma...

I've got an S2 which I like very much. Its a mint '96 Regussa coupe. I've had it chipped, have S6 wheels and have put the 996's up front (but yet to do the rears).

I've also just bought a 1985 CQ in white. If it wasn't for the massive sorpion exhaust that the previous owner had fitted, I probably wouldn't be loving the noise it makes so much! Its in good nick, but needs some TLC. Overheats very quickly (luckily it has a manual override fan switch for highspeed motorway driving!!!) but appart from that it seems mechanically sound.

Now, recently I showed my Dad a pic of a sportquattro (dialynx rep) on pistonheads and he was supprised at how much it sold for, and said, shall we have a go? I've enquired at dialynx to see what they have to offer, and maybe I'm gonna pop down there and show them the car. He's basically offered to finance it, if we can sell it for a profit after a bit of use maybe! I'm doubtful that we can, but then again, some of these sell for £30k, and surely it wouldn't cost THAT much provided you could do most of the arbitary jobs yourself?

Trouble is, its soooo much work and neither of us have the time and certainly one of us doesn't have the money! Im just running around in circles, one day thinking yes lets go for it, the next thinking ohhh errrmmm arrhhh?!

Theres lots of other things I could be doing, such as finishing off the brake conversion on the back of the S2 and then getting it all cleaned up and made perfect. Would love that!
And/Or make the CQ absolutely mint, get everything painted, refurbished and take a real pride in it?
And/Or modify the CQ as it is (engine not bodywork) and make it into a beast...!?

I really don't know what to do! Please throw in some suggestions, and try to use your head and not all follow your hearts and say SPORTQUATTRO very loudly!

If I think about it too much longer and let my girlfriend get a word in they might both be sold!!!

    Cheers!
    Phil

I think you have answered your own question there to a certain extent. If neither of you have time, there is NO way you will make money on a Sport Quattro Conversion. IF you did it yourselves, properly, you MAY make money.

    Just my 2p's worth.

If it were me, I would concentrate on finishing the S2 off in style...

      .

Unless your job is welding and fabrication, your going to find it a steep learning curve. Also would you pay £30k for a 'home made' conversion out of someones garage?

You'll need to show any buyer you've done things like this before, but if it's for yourself, go for it, i am with my project.

Gotta spend your money on summat.

I think its better to have one nice project car, than a few half-finished ones that you haven't got time to sort out.

Forget it - SQ conversions are sohhhhh passe IMO. As said, you might make some money if doing it all yourself, but the market for a butt ugly car like that is pretty small. If done properly with the 2-dr 80 saloon front end then it at least looks more like the real McCoy - which ain't no looker these days. But if looks the part then it needs circa 300bhp with a 20V conversion to make it go well. Big money and grief.

By all means turn that old UR into a project / trackday car if thats your thing, but don't waste time by cutting the thing into a shorty conversion.

Its all been done before - if its what you really want then go for it, but I wouldn't be assed doing it to try and make money - there are MUCH simpler ways than that
