    RS2 advice...

    Hi

..new to the forum, but have had my RS2 as a daily driver since '02. -it's currently getting a few pieces of cosmetics sorted, but I'm after some advice..

The (rubbish from new) handbrake has broken completely. Am I right in thinking there is some sort of recognised 'upgrade' available? If so, I would appreciate any details etc.

Also, i've taken it to AMD a few times for work, and Audi (basic servicing only!), but can anyone recommend anyone local-ish who can work on these cars?

    Thanks
    Steve

Depends how close you want to go what sort of distance you looking to go?

Where abouts did the handbrake go? the cables, callipers or lever?

    welcome btw.

The handbrake on the RS is effectively a drum brake inside the brake disc. So there are two shoes, lever etc. Guess its time for it to be all replaced! Or at least inspected.

...the cable snapped, -but it was pretty useless before that anyway -i've just been parking it in gear for ages, but the MOT has now run-out... so once it's back from the bodyshop it'll need sorting asap...

..happy to travel for a decent mechanic/specialist, but just wondered if there were any recommendations nearer to home-?

        cheers

            Hi and welcome
Yes the handbrake it's........... not a brake!
I did come to a satisfying solution
got the drums covered with different compound softer then the original from Audi (better say Porsche in this particular case) i also use sand paper on the inside of the disc to have a gripper surface.
It does do the job now i would'nt say it's the best i had but it's ok for the mot and the normal slopes (still i don't trust it after so many years of sliding......)
It costs few euros to have the job done by a proper company i used the one that did the drums for my crane (i work in the marble business)

              -thanks all, much appreciated.

The car is 100% original at present (well, apart from the tyre sizes), but I'm keen to make any worthwhile upgrades that are available... so any recomendations welcome,

              cheers

                Get it.....
                chipped n stripped
                Ported n polished
                fed n watered
                honed n bored
                stroked n decoked
                Chaz n Dave
                Lowered n blowered
                Lightened n balanced
                Fish n chips
Flowed n blowed (well blown )

Then unless you get those rusty RS2 brakes swapped out for some nice Porshe monoblocks, you can get it....

                raced n rallied
                crashed n stashed
                written off n stripped

                cheers n

the handbrake was one of the first things i fixed on mine as well.Every 2 years now i just tighten the cables to hold better.I replaced the shoes with new ones, cables too and also the clips that work the pads against the rear drums of the discs. After i replaced the discs as well, the handbrake also got better. It does hold on slopes now,but would never think of letting it without gear in.

extreme idea would be to add a rear caliper to connect to the handbrake cables, but never got round doing that.

Who'd have thought it ae, £45.000 and the fooking hanbrake don't work.

I've got RS2 brakes on my CQ and can lock the rear wheels on dry tarnac with the handbrake.... New cabels and shoes, copper grease on moving parts inside "drum" and rubbed up the inside of the "drum" with sandpaper. Perfect....
