    Rediculous.

I think that we need to start alerting this rediculous situation to the motoring press, a car manufacturer disowning the roots that made their name... disgusting.

I think we need to pool the facts into one thread and then compose a letter to send to the major magazines, I can think of a few CAR, EVO, Autocar, Top Gear and there are many more. If the press becomes aware of this then it will put pressure on Audi directly. You just hope that a review of a new A4 points out that it's well build but it'll have to be as part will ahve to last forever as there will be a shortage after a mere 10 years of some basic parts...

This has been covered by various titles already and there was at least 2 letters about it in latest Audi driver mag. (also mentioning the fact that Audi decided to "skip" a lot of its older car parts). Out of all of the German car manufacterers Audi is certainly more concerned about throwing the money into R&D for new a future models and brushing the oldies under the carpet.

I think reader stats of mags like Car, Evo, Top Gear etc will not be that bothered about the older models anyway, sure they might well recognize the UR as an icon but not necasarilly have one sitting in the garage.

Its a shame, a real shame but one thats gotta be taken on the chin im afraid.

Mags like these are always harking back to the quattro and Integrale etc as a benchmark for modern cars. I for one think it would be worth a shot...

Been done a few times by Quattro Forum members... General Reply is "oh we didnt realise there was a shortage, we'll pass it onto management".

Going higher is pointless, letters probably get opened by receptionists and binned if they have a complaint in them. I do however have Ingolstadts major contact list in front of me.

I agree it's criminal to disown a car that launched Audi to where they are today. I have written to Audi uk and was extremely disapointed with their reply. You can see my letter and Audi uk's reply here I have gone further but untill I have a reply

They offer support in the reply, perhaps we should badger every Audi dealer until that support is found... Then again that means dealign with an Audi dealer and my Local one in Bristol is shyte.

Yes and that support consists of a dealer in germany who buys up all the old stock and sell them on again...................but it's mainly for the beetles etc, when I phoned them looking for an NLA part for mine they wre unable to assist me. I ended up having to have the part remade myself (my dealer is more supportive than that!!!!!)

Does that reply from Audi UK surprise anyone here ?

Its just management speak - from the text book - and not particularly well phrased in this case. What is the route to escalating this with the powers that be in Audi HQ in Germany - assuming someone there cares about this.

I think its really embarrassing for Audi to imagine that their classic/older cars will be that much harder to keep on the road and that many cars will be destroyed as a source of parts to keep people on the road.

What Audi wants you to do is keep the old car in a dusty old shed up on bricks and sell you a brand new car which you might get another 10yrs out of. In this day and age it is ridiculous to think we have a premium manufacture of cars that cannot help owners run them longer than that.

I can't see ANY negative in Audi HQ helping on this - all they have to do is release drawings / designs of NLA parts to a reliable number of component manufacturers who can continue to build the rare parts and make them available (at a profit) via the dealer network, independent specialists or clubs and such with group buys and such like.

Perhaps having a go at them down the "green" route, Not very green to be constantly building new cars when if you keep the parts coming we can run things longer.

I know it's difficult, but if you put an accountants hat on for a moment you will understand why thay aint gonna do diddly squat about the Ur.

BMW, Porsche and Merc have (always had) fully functioning 'heritage' departments. Audi does not and never has had. These departments keep stocks for older cars etc. Audi haven't got this.

This 'service' from the other manufacturers can stay in place at little expense to the marque as the infrastructure is already in place. It doesn't help them sell new cars, but it doesn't take much off the bottom line at the end of the year.

In contrast, setting up a 'heritage' department for Audi would mean extreme expense and I doubt if they could even do it if they wanted to. Remember, the Urs were mostly built from VW parts boxes and never had an automated production line.

no, i have a much better idea than a letter at least in the first instace. why don't we coordinate between the key audi forums dealing with older cars like Audifans Quattroownersclub, clubaudi etc and have an 'Audi Customer Service Day' where we all decide to contact Audi on 0800699888 to vent our frustration about NLA.

It would certainly show a nice call spike about a certain call type we can grab a name from someone to address the letter too and take it from there. Explaining that was what we did would also raise an eyebrow or two with the motoring press and probably get an ear from Audi or at least an official VAG UK response :Chit:
