    Spark plugs -RS2

.Hi all... a general question; are there different types / quality of spark plugs that fit an RS2-?

My car has been running fine for years, the last ones AmD fitted c2003... the car was serviced last week by Audi (yeah, I know, but they're local).. trouble is it's been running on 4 cylinders sporadically since I picked it up...

The parts cost for the spark plugs seems cheap (compared to the AmD invoice in '03-? which is why I was wondering on the quality of these new ones... ?

could just be a coincidence of course and nothing to do with sparks...

Any thoughts from those more knowledgable?

    cheers
    Steve

I always get the OE ones off VAG Parts at about £7 each for my S2, I have not had any issues with these and replace them every 10k or so, 4 years is FAR too long (equally 10k is probrably overkill). If you're running a remapped car them perhaps there are better sparks available but you'll need to wait for advice on that as I don't know.

Make sure they put the CORRECT VAG ones in, ask to see part numbers, anything other than the correct ones will not work properly.

Also check that they have not disturbed the wiring for the coil packs, this gets very brittle with age and can easily be damaged by not being careful enough. Also check the condition of the spark plug "boots" too.

        Cheers,

        Steve.

While I always run the OE Bosch F5DP0R, there are some options that others have/are trying (note: AAN is the same as ADU and ABY on this issue):

            Thanks all.

I've now looked through previous invoices, and they were changed in 03 at AMD, but again in 06, and all prices look to be similar..

Think the wiring and 'extension boots' will be the next area to check....

            cheers

-the car was thoroughly checked by Audi 3 weeks ago when it was fully serviced (inc brake fluid change, cam belt, spark plugs etc etc).. it then went back last week for a few other jobs that were found (new strut tops, cam cover gasket, wheel bearing).

So I picked the car up last Thursday and since then at least 50% of the miles I've done (not many) have been on four cylinders.. No 'pattern' to when I loose a cylinder either... very frustrating.

You really need to go through that step by step procedure I posted above to track down the problem. Very likely it's ignition. Probably POS but it could be just a spark plug or a boot connector. Nevertheless, could be a coil (cracked wire arching).

Follow the link below and click on the POS info in the list below the diagram. Once there, read and then click on the "More POS.." link.

TBH You have probably spent quite a few bob at this Audi garage considering the stuff they have done ...I would take the car back and tell them that it has not run right since you picked the car up and having spent £££ ..they should get it sorted!! and for £0...pretty poor letting a car go out running like that ...Since they have changed the cam cover gasket i would check to see if they have connected the earth back on for the coils?

This one(it will be brown in colour,i had changed mine)

If they have had the cam cover gasket off you can almost 100% guarantee they have disturbed / not connected / damaged something in the coilpack / ignition system.

Go back and ask them to sort it out!

                        Best of luck.

                        Cheers,

                        Steve.
