Audi TT RS with 2,5l 5cyl turbo motor on the Ring?

This will be an exiting car! I like the sound of that modern 5 cylinder turbo engine as well, since at it's basis was the V10 from Lambo. Or is it running the new 3.0-liter TFSI V6? It's supposed to have 330-350 HP.

I've heard speculation that this has been tested on the 'ring with 550-600bhp! And whether the engine will be the right way around or not will remain to be seen, but I'm pretty sure it won't be as it'll no doubt end up in an RS3 at some stage which will probably have to be Haldex due to space constraints

What is the right / wrong way round?

(Note: thought the S2 was the 'wrong' way round for weight distribution, but am I wrong here?)

RIght way round (IMO) is longitudinal - as per UR, S2/4/6/8

The Golf derivatives like TT and S3 are transverse mounted... Only advantage of this method is more compact packaging up front (usually lends itself to smaller engine capacity of course) but the main downside is a phenomenon called 'torque steer' from having one front driveshaft considerably longer than the other. It would be somewhat reduced on a 4WD setup of course... It always bugged me driving a Golf or Corrado.

Dunno how they would squeeze in a 5-pot of that size transverse, but nor do I know how they would adopt a longitudinal layout on a TT either...

Is this car for real or a teaser/spoof ?

ETA - Beaten to it by Paul while the old grey matter, searched for the word "Transverse"....

Longditudinal is "right" for quatto and torsen, "transverse" is wrong... (broadly speaking anyway! )

Thanks! Makes sense - would that explain why, when I took a Clio 172 out for a test-drive i floored it in 2nd in the damp, and had to fight to keep it in a straight line...

(That was a pre-S2 era test drive btw, and convinced me I was not mad wanting an S2 for the same money )

Well it certainly sounds like a 5-pot.

Watching it I had one of those weird flutuating dichotomous moments, that went something like: -

It looks bad....but it sounds great....but it's a TT....but it sounds like a SQ.....but it has angel eyes.....but listen to that sound.....but it's a hairdressers car.....no hairdresser drives a car that sounds that bad (bad as in good).....but everyone would laugh.....not when you booted it they wouldn't......

Then my brain melted and I had to go and lie down....thank god I am working from home

                    Cheers n

That's the bad thing. Is it still a TT.

But if it's in the TT then it opens doors for other cars in the same family (A3/Golf/whatever else)

I've just had a listen to a V6 Audi TT on Youtube, and it sounds nothing like that one posted. It definately sounds like a 5-pot.

Didn't Volvo transversely mount their 5-cylinder in the 850? Infamous for torque-steering.

Oh it definitely sounds like a 5-pot alright - no argument... I just wish there was more official info about it - always dubious about these car spy sites and such. TBH I really liked the look of the TT when it was 1st on the road - I lived in the states at the time so it looked really amazing in amidst the generally horrible styling of US and Jap cars of the day. Trouble is it was just too popular and numerous - made available to many people with small engines, 2WD and no frills - there are too many on the road and it quickly became rather dull and bland... The German equivalent of the Mazda MX-5 I guess as the affordable sports car for everyone - even hairdressers.

The styling of the new TT is a bit more aggressive and has shades of the R8 about it, and that engine has immense appeal so it does have somethin going for it... But only if it handles nicely as well - is it Haldex or Torsen ? The TT RS concept could work alright....
