They really do have a short memory at Audi! What do you think of the name? Sacrilege?
Audi S1 (not the one you're thinking)

At first sight I don't like it to abuse that legend.
Given the reality thrown up in the thread "worst and best comments" only a few will know "S1".
So there may be no arguments preventing Audi from using the naming conventions for the smallest Audi. I personally hope they're throwing it to the rallys to renew a legend

'94 Audi S4 C4 Avant 303Tkm, KW, Brembos, BN-Pipes, Bose, S6 front (sold)
'93 Audi S4 C4 Avant, 260Tkm

'shattering performance ehhh' - LOL
This is marketing folks - and those guys do indeed have short memories... What is chances of any of current Audi marketing department being around long enough to remember the old 'S1' ? Also remember that label was just for race/rally car - not a production model, but in 2009 it fits perfectly with the current model line up..
As pocket rockets go it has some appeal - weight of quattro in such a small car must be a significant penalty though.
I think we are safe with the 'S2' - the factory won't be sportifying the A2 anytime soon - we just have the A2 owning folk that like to badge up their cars - and sport a fetish for leather driving gloves on frantic 45mph tours of castle combe

I'm with clarkson when he says that new audi buyers are old BMW a**holes.
since the new RS4 wanted to do it the beamer high rev way audi builds cars for former bmw buyers.
those new gen don't even know about group B heritage, don't care how audi became great again.RCNComment

thats pretty poor show IMO, though I can see the marketing shots of yesterday and today with the cars side by side no doubt trying to infer some tenuous technology link between the cars even with 25yrs water under the bridge
There would have been no issues using A2 from the URQ rally car as a model naming convention for the shopping trolley model but the S1 was the pinacle of Quattro and that should have been protected....period!
To be honest it kinda says everything about Audi and it's view on heritage...basically everyone (i.e. their customers) has forgotten after this long so not to worry rip the name and re-use.sigpic

I guess anyone fortunate enough to own an S1 will now get laughed at if they take it to a dealer and then dare to tell people what it is ...at least they won't get remarks like "we never made an S1" ...but they'll never get any joy from the parts department!Martin Cutting

Yikes....WTF!
I can start shouting more names but I think the best thing to do is to convince Audi that they shouldn't use this name for a commercial car.
So I wrote them a letter.....with a bomb
If al of us, who don't like Audi abusing the magic
"S1" , sent them the same kind of letter like I just did.......then maybe there's a small change that Audi will find another name.

Auto Express are to motoring, what the Sun newspaper is to journalism.
These are the clowns that said the new TTRS will have a twin "turbo" 5 cylinder.
Apparently on sale November "2008"
(I'm not disputing the 5 cylinder, but the twin turbo)
Along with the "1999" RS3, the "2001" RS8 and the 2009 V12 powered quad turbo RS8.
Anyone know where this dealers is that are selling these models?

I swear they make it as they go along.2001 Avus Silver B5 RS4.

I still hear people talking about the RS3.
As for using the name 'S1', does anyone else remember the Audi A1 and A2 from the old days? It still catches me out when someone says they have an Audi A2, so far I've always been disappointed.
