Well, if is not S1... wich could be the denomination for the A1?? I think is not bad, a 1.4 twincharged for 200bhp and 300nm is a lot good! Almost the power and torque of the 3B engine in such a small car (but as heavy as a S2 C). When talking about the TT-RS... I love it! The return of the 5cylinders, with a turbo and supercharger and direct injection is a direct evolution of our engines! I hope to have it someday somehow!

    cheers to all!

In fairness to the idiots at Audi (I am certainly not their biggest fan with the way that they treat the owners of older cars) they have set a precident with the naming and so it was always going to happen.

Naming is an important part of product marketing and it is more important that Joe public understands the model variants for a range (e.g. A1, S1, RS1, RS1+ etc) than it is that the name of a non road car is preserved for the few enthusiast that actually remember (or care) what it was. After all, I doubt any owners of this S1 will know what 'our S1' is.

Some other examples for you: -

Do you think the owners of an original Lotus Elan like the fact that the name was reused on an awful thing with a Isuzu engine?

What about stopping Rolls Royce releasing the Phantom in 2003 because it offented the owners of the original 1925 model, oh and the 1929 model, oh and the 1936 model, oh and the 1950 model, oh and the 1959 model, oh and the 1968 model.

Come to think of it, Ferrari had a 1957 race car called the Testa Rossa and reused that name for a road car, along with the California and Superamerica and am I right in thinking that they are about to revive the Daytona name?

Sorry, but Audi just had to call it that, whether they like it (or even realised what the name means) or not.

Naming is important... bulls**t, to them the only thing important is selling mate.
Thats why the new S4 is TFSI even if there is no turbo.
Those marketing fu**ers don't know anything about the products they are selling.
In the old days owning an Audi was a smart choice nowadays an audis are sold as fashion accessoires like chanel sunglasses.

On past experience I would take everything that autoexpress says with a pinch of salt.

Thats a photoshop picture, and Autocar refer to it as the A1 S-line. Not sure if this is the same car, but I trust autocar much much more than auto express. They make all sorts of stuff up at that mag.
