    Audi v8 quattro

Has Anybody on here ever owned the early 4.2 v8 quattro?
Me and my brother went to look at one today as he is after one, it is in excellent condition and obviously well looked after we spent about 40 minutes checking everything and it all looks okay lots of new parts 24 stamps in the service book theres even the audi first aid kit in the arm rest!
However when we got back from the test drive which included a bit of spirited driving in sports mode, there was a burning oil smell, after investigation it seemed to be coming from behind the engine, i am aware that this is a common problem with the v6 engines as my old coupe did it, do the v8 engines suffer from this? or could it be something more serious, im thinking it could be the breather hose behind the valve covers or a valve cover gasket, any ideas?

It could be transmission fluid dripping onto the exhaust, it was on my old one anyway.
