what are the differences between the type 89 and type B4 S2?

was checking on its suspension system, KW seem to advise both type 89 and type B4 has different part number for its Variant1 coilovers.

It's a little simpler than that (unless you've converted a 90q saloon)

B3 = S2 Coupe
B4 = S2 Avant/Saloon RS2

That means B4=S2 avant, S2 Saloon, RS2

'Typ89' is a much maligned term - as it was first in the series of B3 platform vehicles it was used loosely for all of them. There are actually 89,8A,8B and 8G model codes for the B3 platform.

S2 Coupe = 8B (from B3 family)
S2 Avant or Saloon = 8C (from B4 family as of 1992 onwards)
RS2 Avant = 8C derived but technically 'P1' due to Porker involvement

Older 80/90 saloons carry the 89 and 8A model codes as these come from B3 platform as of 1987 onwards

And from a running gear perspective... The B3 quattro suspension is an improved version of the B2 - as found on UR quattro - using struts all round.

B4 quattro introduced dual wishbone at the rear end with a design that has been essentially unchanged on the A4 models from its inception from B5 platform thru to modern day - including RS4 which granted as stiffer bushes and roll bar but it's roots are in the humble 1992 Audi 80 quattro.
