The Audi 80 and Super 90 were introduced in 1965.

And the 90 type 81 and 89 were both available in Turbodiesel versions. Type 85 stands for ''quattro'' the VIN of an Urq. should show 85 in it even if it was produced in 1980. The 80, 90 and coupe show 85 in the VIN aswell.
You are right.... I meant to say B2

In the early days the 50, 75, 80, 90, 100 model number was a reference "to the DIN power output in bhp", The Audi File Eric Dymock.

          Around 1988 (F Reg ) there was a rare 2ltr ? 4cyl engine variant of the 90 Saloon.
Type 89 Quattro Saloons do not have 85 in the VIN.

ofcourse a type 89 quattro doesn't show '85' in the VIN.

There was a 2.0 20V quattro 5 pot 160 bhp. build for the Italian and Belgian market IIRC, engine code was NM.

I confirm the NM 2.0 liters 20V 5 pot quattro engine code for the italian market.
Also i'm quite sure the 90 had the turbodiesel engine at least in Italy both on B3 platform

Of course there are B4 variant 5 pots, Every avant S2 or RS2 owner (and the limos!) have them!

The 90 is just a bit posher, nicer looking lights, bumpers, chrome etc... and over here the B3 80 was in general a 4 pot and the 90 a 5 but either were quattro.

Oh, Rusty, the B4 doesn't have the B5 dual wishbone suspension on the rear....

The 90 was only available with a 5 cylinder, generally had better trim, indicators and fog lights were in the front bumper. The 80 came with 4, 5, 6 cylinder engines, could have indicators and fog lights in the front bumper depending on model but most had them in the headlights. There are lots of little differences but generally the 90 was thought to be the better model because of its higher spec although a 80 with the same spec is the same car

I had one of these, 2,3 NG engine. Hated the engine, big, heavy, non powered gas guzzling engine, sound was only thing I liked

Just thought I would add I have a B3 1988 Audi 80 with a 10v 5cyl quattro in the US, so they do exist
