Here's another memory of the car that just came back to me. Ours lives in Europe and I don't get to see it that often but I remember once on a day trip to Germany in the late 1990's from Liechtenstein, I decided I would finally see if I could FULLY top it out. So I guess it has a 7200 redline but becasue of gearing it sort of runs out of steam around 6800-6900, so anyway about 30 miles into germany on a downhill I knew pretty well I was getting it up there, over 160 mph indicated and close to 7200 paying a lot of attention when bam, bam, bam, the revlimiter kicked in. Not gentle like on a modern car, I mean really rough, big driveline lash and definitely got my attention. After that I decided I would NOT try to top it out ever again.

Was this a non tuned rs2 (315hp)?
The rs2 has a speed limiter on 163 mph 262 km/h rev limitier on 6600rpm.
The car magazine "911 & Porsche World" No:63 year 1999 tested the rs2 and they did 163.43mph 261.5 km/h with one passenger aboard and fuel tank half-full on the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire.
I wonder how much it will do whitout the speed limiter?
To remove the speedlimiter you have to only cut a wire.
Someone here did it?Attached FilesComment

I suspect my limiter maybe faulty, according to my road angel and satnav I chickened at at 167mph (it was still going). On my private test track of course
.
It sounded very nice and ran like a dream for days.

My car was stock and is still stock. I know it has a rev limiter, not sure about the speed limiter. Because of gearing/tire circumference/HP-Torque curve equation I don't think it's very easy to hit in 6th without tailwind or a slight hill. Like I said, I did it once and it was not nice the way the electronics started cutting cylinders out...it just didn't feel like it could be very good for the powertrain.WACZZZ8CZSZ000870Comment

I have hit the speed limiter in my UrS4 and it is a bit startling at first. I don't think the ECU is sophisticated to drop individual cylinders, I think it is more like just dropping the fuel pump out via the ECU-controlled fuel pump relay. Either way, I doubt that it damages anything since it only occurs for a short period.RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan

Well like I said, it was KA-KA-KA, very rapid and significant driveline snatch. Not some nice speed limiter more like the normal rev-limiter kicking in. Not pleasant and with the thing spun up to 7200 and connected to all four corners, I figured probably not that good for it...WACZZZ8CZSZ000870Comment

On my ex- CQ with all the mods but standard engine and k24-7000, it made 160mph touching the rev at 7500rpm with stock NM/7A gear box. I did it just once to test it after everything was running fine. Just me inside the car, and half fuel tank.
