TBH - I am getting a bit fed up with Audi ATM they keep banging on about it's rally heritage - but they havn't competed for donkey's and guy's like us who keep up the Heritage of the range get crapped on from Germany as they keep making parts NLA!!

Am I the only one here who (if I ran Audi) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Quattro would simply remake THE QUATTRO - specifically the Shortie?

And before you say anything, I do not mean reusing the name like Lotus do, chopping an RS5 and calling it a shortie, or making something that looks vaguely like the original (like the Fiat 500, the VW Beetle or the Mini) - I mean remake the SWB UR Quattro!

It would of course benefit from modern suspension, turbo technology, composites etc but it would be an exact remake - to the point where possible that parts would be interchangeable - thus producing parts to either upgrade or restore original Shorties.

You make it a 500 unit release at silly money to celebrate and prove/stimulate demand, then you do a mass production version which is detuned to maintain the exclusivity and thus value of the 500 batch - i.e. keep those owners happy. The standard version can of course be tuned up but it will never be a 500 batch and those will never be an original 216 batch original, but everyone is happy

I thought Si was in legals - not marketing - but its not a totally outrageous idea. However, I would say the new Beetle, Fiat 500 and Mini have been successful 'retro styling' cars of recent times. Had Audi chosen that route to celebrate the anniversary of the car that single handedly changed the fortunes of the company with something in that vein then it might have some truck with us heritage loving folk. Truth is, the average man in the street couldn't care less for all that historical nonsense - nor does Audi really - other than occassionally wheeling out the old GpB weapons for the likes of Goodwood it no longer knows one end of a rally car from the other. They have decided this 'special car' has to be big, brash, loud and aggressively styled - and have 20" wheels and phooking SatNav. Audi have failed us again. It is downright butt ugly and I wouldn't piss on it if I saw one on fire.... except to steal the engine if its weedy alloy block hasn't melted already.

I would take one at a good used price. I like an ugly Audi! Always did: Urquattro, sportquattro, s2 coupe (come on people it is ugly indeed) even my RS2.

Also other brand ugly cars from the escort cosworth to the evo 6 or the delta S4.

It's very Corrado esk and for that reason alone, I like it.

The car the Scirocco should have been? Wearing a VW roundel obviously…

As for the rear, I think it's much less BMW like than the current A4 and A5!

i like it, it's growing on me more and more as i look at it. everything is functional on it. big opening to allow for lotsa air to the intercooler and engine, side vents for brake cooling, big fenders to allow white tires, it's light compared to most awd cars on the road. Also, i bet it's got a good weight distribution... plus 400+hp... plenty of room to grow there.

i hope it's less than the R8, should be less than the tt-rs also in my opinion. it shares with an s5 than it does from a TT.

I think Marmite is disgusting, and I don't like the look of that Audi although I'd rather look at that than taste Marmite.
