Anyone with a 7a that's loathed to rev has a problem! Mine will fly up to rev limit without the slightest difficulty, the cars top speed is purely limited by gearing not running out of puff.

        I agree!

Once done with my motor NM 245km/h 7000rpm. It becomes difficult to continue .. for more on the original valve springs and head.

2nd that, had mine up to 6500rpms in 5th. On a private test track of course.

@4Wheel, get a 5-1 manifold as it totally transforms the car. Power band is 5-7k, peak power is around 6300-6400rpms. It should run into the rev limiter with enthusiasm.

Getting a tubular would be easy now, but I sold the cq20v about 6 years ago. Mark, I remember being jealous of your avatar when I joined the forum.
In fact I almost bought a tubular a few years ago, just to have as an ornament.

I've just reminded myself of 20v.org.
The torque plot on there sums up how mine felt.

I'm guessing we're saying if you have a post March '90 7A, you need to get a tubular EM.

Just to echo the revs, my 90 wants to go past the limiter. I had it on track recently and the Achilles bell is the gearing for me.getting it to build torque earlier next goal. I see teamwork for me. Got a RE session in jan. Aiming for 200bhp from mine which is achievable on reasonable budget beyond that its big money. Only conversions of the time I have found were ottinger, abt and gti engineering. All circa 200bhp. But in a lighter 90 chassis should make
for a good power to weight ratoo

Didnt know the 90 was lighter. They are supposed to handle better as its a more rigid shell than the coupe. I originally wanted a 90q20v but bought the CQ instead.

If you can find a later car without the tubular and fit one to it then it will yield good results. Plus certain ecu's (error's plus the 20vcq I just got rid of) can be chipped by spink on here to help with getting a bit more power.

My 20v quattro sport was superb for revving, low down used to suffer but once opened up used to scream (ask the residents in chelmsford high street ) and i've had that way off the clock before.

I know stiglet was thinking of going stroker 7a as he's got the bottom end plus a tsr head to go with it but don't think much happened. I'd have loved to get more out my 20vcq but want to sort my urq.

I have taken my NM to the rev. limiter in 5th as Nuno, did it twice, 245Km/h first time and 250 the next one with 7,...K rpm, with the old hitachi injectors and original Tubular Manifold.

Read with interest as one of my projects is a modified 7A in a 1985 Audi 90 Quattro 4 door.
Have had head ported, cams ground and modified the inlet so there are two throttle bodies. Have no idea if this will work and if not will just blank off the new opening. ECU will be a local Gotech system.

As found this article about a 275 HP 20V engine on the www, but can not find the original article now, so to quote:-

Just been looking through this thread as i'm interested in working on my 7a block.

The head on my coupe has already been ported by tony-4v6 on classic audi with nice results, it also has the 034 injectors fitted, ECU remapped by AMD, tubular manifold with ss exhaust.

What i'm looking to find out is where i can find a 92.8mm crank, eurospecsports in the states do one - http://www.eurospecsport.com/product...rankshafts.htm.
Does any one have any experience of this company?
Also is there anywhere closer to home where i could source one from?

I'll be coming down to the rolling road day at MRC next month so i can finally get some figures on the power output on the coupe as it stands now. It feels sharp as it is, but it would be nice to do something with the bottom end.
