Real RS2?

Hi all,

new to the Audi S2/RS2, but have been thinking lately of buying an RS2. I have an opportunity to buy one, but it seems a little underpriced. I don't want to take risks. How can you spot the difference between a real RS2, and an upgraded S2? Forgive me if it's a stupid question, just want t o be sure...

Get the VIN code off it, that is the easiest.
The forum also contains a difference list between S2 and RS2.

Would have thought chassis numbers on registration documents might help, and it should have this information on the original documents too? i.e. S2 or RS2 somewhere on the docs. Hope this helps sure you will get more info soon

Probably he found it from he's RS2 VIN plate

Normal Audi: WAU
Quattro GMBH Audi WUA
RS2 only: WAC

If it has been faked then there's an awful lot of differences between the S2 Avant and RS2 that would give it away...

Well it can be the most fantastic upgrading of an S2 to RS2 specs or even better then an RS2 itself.... and the onee from Tom it's like that!
But eventually in rude market words it's just an S2 pretending to be an RS2 isn't?

Fair enough if you keep the car forever but as soon as you put the car up for sale it makes a BIG difference.

Prices in Italy for a decent S2 Avant it's 5000/7000 euros
An RS2 in the same conditions goes from 12.000 to 18.000 euros

In terms of collectables even the RS2 America of Tom (hat off! ) will suffer for the fact that the VIN it's not of an RS2, and defenetely the one from Tom will be far far better then my original one in terms of conditions, hell it's NEW!

I can be wrong but....By knowing Tom I believe he'll keep is RS2 forever (otherwise I'll shoot him!) but if in any case he'll come down to sell it, he will state that the car it's a project.

Is it an orginal RS2?
He will say.... No it is not.

and btw normal audi could be TRU (from hungary, gyor)

but i never saw a "C" on the 3rd digit.

2-MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle)
U-Passenger Car (Audi make)
W-Passenger Car (VW make)

And im trying to fine tune my vin decoder. Im pretty sure the C will be some kind of category, not just the RS2

I don't know that much about the Audi VIN numbers.
Only few things that I can tell you it's that:

My ETKA man at the counter (top one!) told me that only RS2 has that "C"

You also must consider that on my RS2 documents on the part related to "Brand" it's stated Audi/Porsche ARGE and not only Audi.

Where ARGE means in German something like a joint venture between the two brands.

The RS2 was anyway coming out from Porsche Zuffenhausen gates nad not Ingolstadt nor Neckarsulm

So an "exotic" "C" could make some sense?

Anyway I'll have the right man to disclose this "C" extravaganza in few weeks in LeMans.....The guy from Audi Tradition, that wrote a fantastic book about the Audi 80 (only in german unfortunately) I must just remember to ask about it.
