what would be cheaper ?s2 or turbo

hey guys i live in canada so s2's are verry rare almost impolisble to find ...... tooking to make by 1990 cq 20v go faster what would be a better thing to do ?.... import a s2/rs2 from europe or buy a turbo from europ and will a turbo even fit on the stock 20 v ? if it is a better idea to import a turbo where can i get one from any good peopl out there i can buy from at a good cost ?...... and if it is better to get the s2 engin or rs2 engine from over there where can i get one from and how much would these two things run my wallet ? thnaks

I'm not aware of the S2 being imported into the USA and Canada. Plenty of people have upgraded CQ's into an imitation S2. There is a good web site listing what is done www.20v.org and go to the e/S2 section. Huge amount of work and you need a donor car such as the old S4. ( 5 cyl turbo version)

agreed....no need to import a turbo engine or a turbo from Europe. You need an engine from a UrS4/S6 or similar 5 cylinder turbo from before 1995. Everything will be straightforward, and you can still use the stock harness. You'll need to do custom piping for the intercooler and perhaps the downpipe. These engines are available and can be had for $2,000-$2,500. I know someone who is working on several 10vt and 20vt swaps this winter in 3 coupes and 2 sedans. www.ubernugen.com has an AAN engine if i recall correctly...many other places too such as www.shokan.com <--great people.

i know that it would cost about $6000 usd to rebuild and turbo the 7a, but thats for about 500hp. so pick your poison.

That's actually a sedan, but none-the-less, a tough project. I know someone in Maryland, USA who has a 4.2 liter in a coupe...looks and sounds and performs fantabulously!

Mike, I think you are better off considering using an engine from a UrS4/6. You won't need to make engine mounts or anything. However, you could successfully get any engine in there, it just depends how much you are willing to pay if you wanna play. The later S6 and S8 engines are 4.2 liter V8s, meanwhile you can get more horsepower from the I5 turbo engines. The V8s are topped off around 350hp or so...
