    Fractured H&R Springs

I bought a set of H&R springs for my S2 a while back .... well quite a while back. After some months of rough riding recently, I check my springs to find that not one but ALL FOUR springs had fractured. This meant that my car was inadvertantly "lowered" another 3 cm at all corners.

Has anyone else ever experienced this with H&R or any other springs for that matter? I have personally never experienced this on any of my other cars and have never heard of it happening.

Have you still got the original shockers on it?

quite likely,I have never heard of hr's breaking myself but I know when i drove an s4 with them that had standard shocks the ride was hard as **** and I could imagine something breaking in time, when konis were fitted it felt fine.

I've had my HR's and koni on my Avant for more than 12 years no problems apart from needing new front shocks.

There have been several cases off H&R springs on C4 UrS4s and UrS6s breaking due to corrosion (winter road salt getting under the plastic cover (which is probably cracked)) in the north eastern United States (where they salt the roads in the winter). Typically, this has only been on the front springs. H&R North America has replaced the springs to the original purchaser (they had to produce the sales bill). You might ask H&R about replacements if you are the original purchaser.

I have heard of them breaking for people, happened to me on my coupe. I think in my case it was caused by old collapsed top mounts, basically they were binding up so with when steering onto full lock it was winding up the spring.

When I bought my UrS6 in 2007 one of the front H&R springs was broken. The spring was broken under the plastic cover & the covered part of the spring was rusty. I called H&R and the woman sales rep told me that I would have to be the original owner, have the receipt, bla bla bla... So I "found" the receipt but when I called back I spoke with a different sales rep (man) who only asked me for a shipping address. Two new front springs were delivered to me free of charge.

Great. I think I may have the receipt somewhere. It is worth a try.

It would appear that H&R fracturing is not an isolated occurance. That will be useful when I talk to the agent.

Mine broke on all corners - the rears as well. No turning there.

Just found my receipt. Purchased mine 2004. 8 years old. All 4 cracked.

I will see what I can do. I will take some pics just to extablish the failure mode.

my drivers side front snapped....found it just before I was due to head off on a roadtrip. Never pursued anything with H&R as didnt have the time to wait for replacements. No idea on warranty though, is it lifetime or limited?
