    Identification Question

Anybody know what this is in the green circle???

Its fed from the rear of the manifold on a 3B and has a one way valve so stores vacuum only....
Is it required or can it be deleted?

Think its something to do with aircon. carbon canister is on the other side.

            Is it really needed??

I have just found it on ETKA and it only stores vacuum for One valve operation on the heater/Aircon system

Can it be deleted? Depends if you want things to operate as they were designed or not. In this case, acutation of the fresh air/recirculation flap of the heater system.

In the first diagram, vacuum is apparently drawn past the Item 3 check valve, with the vacuum "stored" (saved?) in the Item 4 vacuum tank. When called on it looks like the Item 8 solenoid uses the vacuum to pull on the vacuum solenoid/actuator attached to hose 17.

In the second diagram (below), you can see the vacuum solenoid is item 18 and it controls the Item 16 vacuum "unit" which is attached to Item 33 "levers" which controls the recirculating air flap (Item 8 intake duct with recirculating air flap).

On cars with automatic climate control the vacuum tank provides vaccum for fresh air flap operation. I pondered the same thing a few months back.

I will do a test tomorrow evening, if that valve actuates when the engine is running with no delay and it does not look like it requires a reservoir of vacuum to operate I will get rid As its just another pipe that could cause a boost leak.

And to be honest if its there so that I can open/shut the fresh air flap when under Boost using the stored vacuum I guess I will be happy not playing with the heater controls under boost conditions

If you have a vacuum operated recirc flap then it'll operate fine without the tank as long as you leave the one way valve in the circuit, it'll just wait until you next come off boost to work.

You should also have a vacuum reservoir down the back for the diff lock actuator and you could use this source of vacuum for your recirc flap actuator - that's what I did and it works fine.
