    standard S2 Gtech run

After 6 months I finally have most things fixed on my car and it is running fine at the moment. It is still standard and gives 0,7 bar boost. I believe it has to give 0,8 bar but I think my boost guage (autostyle , was on stock) isnt working properly.

I am already busy with buying all the rs2 parts and wanted to do the complete rs2 swap with ofcourse a proper remap, this will take some time because i first have to save some money .

Because I think the car is finally running fine, I did some tests with my Gtech pro competition. The car is standard except from a ITG conefilter.
    I got the following figures:

    Outside temp: 10 degrees
    road=wet.

    0-100 km = 5,848 sec
    0-400 m = 13,9 , 155 km/h ( isnt this much to quick , i thought it was 14,5
    for a standard car)
    power at the wheels=147 kw

I didnt save this run , but I will do a run on my way back home which I will post on the forum. Hope to get the same figures.

I wanted to thank all the people for helping me on the forum, without this help I wouldnt get the car in this shape and it would have costs me a fortune at the audi stealer .

Good numbers for a stock car

I havnt done anything to my car other than put a milltech cat back on and i now get on optimax about 1.2 bar max and every time at least 1.0 bar up to about 4500-5000 revs then it drops off to 0.5-0.7. I found a small leak in a vacume line and fixed it so now at tickover i get -0.6 bar

Ok as promised the Gtech results. I couldnt get it under 6 seconds , but I think this was because I did my 5,8 second run with an empty tank, the 6 second run was with a full tank. I hope the dyno is clear i had to resize it because it was exceeding 100kb

I made a compare of some cars of my friends.

Main runs: my S2, stock 3b car with only ITG filter, 136.000 km.
        Run 1: BMW X3 3.0 D chipped
        run 2: Volvo s70 T-5 stock,
        Run 3: BMW M3 E36, 286 Pk

As you can see i hit the rev limiter in first gear, I lost some time there.

The power output on the wheels are the following±
        audi S2:145 kw 253 NM
        BMW X3 chipped: 142 kw 317,6 nm
        volvo T-5:151,3kw 279 nm
        Bmw m3: 140,3 kw 230 nm

I believe that the x3 is chipped to 250 hp at the crank. So i think my s2 performs very well for such an old car. I dont know if the bmw m3 is technically ok, the figures are really disappointing for a car with 283 hp. I thought that this car would really outperform me on every aspect . Always look out for a volvo t5 that is a real quick car, we went to spain with it, I was really impressed. for some hours we only drove between 200 and 250 km an hour.

          145kw @wheels can't be stock 3B? That's ~200hp@wheels from a 220hp engine. Must be nearer to 250@flywheel or?

I found it also pretty much for a stock 3b, but when I was on a RR i saw that a lot of s2 give more power than the standard, 220 hp.

                  Karl,

It is a small device that works on g-forces, based on this g-force it can calculate 0-100km, 0-400, power torque etc. When you did some runs with your car you can connected to the computer and download the data to you computer, with the software which is included in the set you can see how your car performs. You can also take 3 other cars to compare your data with. It is a real intesting device especially if you chance a lot on you car.

regards and a happy new year,

                  Erik

I think it gives relative a lot wheelhorsepower because a Gtech does not calculate 4wd loss?

Yeah - AFAIK - it assumes a 2WD chassis and uses ~15% correction for drivetrain losses. A quattro is more like ~25% - its not an exact science but you need to take that into consideration when setting up the G-Tech... or tweaking its results afterwards.

It does not calculate any loss at all. Results are @wheels with no correction for drivetrain/wheels/wind resistance losses. So if you measure in 3. gear there will be more loss then on a dyno. It take a few HP to push an S2 through the air at 160km/h

                        Cheers,

I am not a big fan of these devices as a guide for BHP or Torque either at wheels or crank. But they must be handy in for measurements in G-force, acceleration and braking, cornering. Things that are the goal of tuning...

With this quote "Results are @wheels with no correction for drivetrain/wheels/wind resistance losses." you are already saying the answer. It cannot see the difference between 4wd and 2wd, so power @wheels will be unreliable data. Also power at wheels is not to be influenced by wind resistance but speed is!

I assume this device works a bit like this: you put in the weight of the car and by monitoring the G-force (and speed) on your car it will calculate (with known data) what kind of hp equals what kind G-force. If I am wrong please feel free to correct me.

Maybe i'm wrong then - I always thought the GTech made an internal calculation to adjust for drivetrain losses - based on a noddy 15% estimate.

I still think 145kW at the wheels is optimistic for a stock 3B... Its spec'd for 162kW at the flywheel and by the ready reckoning rule of thumb for 25% transmission loss that should put you at 121kW at the wheels... Thats a mighty 20% difference in the two numbers.

However accurate (or not) the G-Tech is - it is a good tool for guaging RELATIVE performance improvements before and after modifications - absolute figures are less important for that. As long as it repeatedly gives you approx the same answer at the same engine trim and ambient conditions.
