I recently installed CCTV around the house and it's amazing what I have picked up on it already. Worryingly it doesn't seem to deter but would have the evidence to help convict, also if I can identify the culprit I could just pop round for a friendly chat

they'll have fun trying to leave discretely in mine I think best advice is take the usual precautions, leave nothing on show in the car, make sure doors windows locked at night (amazing how many dont!!!) and ensure the keys cannot be fished from through the letterbox (we have a letterbox lock) and they will find someone else less vigilant to take from.

Somehow a 20year old wolf in sheeps clothing is not going to be anywhere near as easy to shift on as a newer s/rs car IMO

I heard of someone that set up tear gas in their car.

I would set up a decoy car with Co2 and auto door dead lock for shits and giggles

words of warning and strange advice from a copper?

Manchester police would not advise that I know or sure.

no car is worth your life and I know of people who have had their kids threatened in front of them to get Subaru keys.

I think the point should be thanks for letting us know.
A few of these people will look through your windows and if they se the keys they will break in if they dont see the keys they will carry on.

But i also know of more than one person that is greatfull they left the keys down stairs and more than one that wishes that they had left them down stairs.

My theory is going to be an old mobile hooked up to the battery on charge all the time on a top up. Then if it gets stolen, ring the police my baby has got stolen i dont know what to do my baby my baby she has my mobile in here little bag does that help.

Then when they say we have found your car argh my baby hope shes ok..

This really is putting me of getting an RS4 mind makes me wonder how many are totally legit.

Gazza, funny you should mention Manchester as my Dad (who lives in South manchester) recently experienced something similar to what this fella is warning about. He had a 2011 Audi S3 in the bright blue colour (not sure what its called).

My Dad woke one morning a month or so back to find the back window of the house had been broken into, he walked to the front of the house to see an empty drive. It seems they had been all through the house (even into their bedroom whilst they were asleep), nicked some cash and camera from my Mum's handbag and then finally found the keys to the S3.

This whole thing really shook my Dad up as you can imagine and he's now back in a A3 1.8T and swears he'll never go back to anything badges with 'S' or 'RS'. Not only is it crap that they had to go through this but as a guy in his mid 70s he's spent his life loving fast cars, Lotus Cortinas, Imp Sports, MK1 Mini Cooper S, Escort RS 2000i etc etc and now he's totally lost interest.

People who do stuff like that need proper punishment, they just think they're entitled to take stuff from other people without having to work for it, p^sses me off no end. And they catch him and what would he get, a slap on the wrist because we haven't got enough prison space?

Even if they did go to prison, it is hardly hard time these days. How the **** does it cost £38k a year to house a prisoner. I could personally show them how to feed, clothe and house a prisoner for a tenth of that money. It would also create one hell of a deterrent. This country is too soft though. Happy to "thrive" on capitalism but unwilling to protect their efforts.

I keep my guns and my keys in the same place. I am the first line of defense as I sleep downstairs and my children are on the second floor. I would in an instant give my keys over risking my children/wife, but if someone is in MY house I will go after them and shoot to kill. That way they can't sue me later in a civil case.....it has happened.

I live in the rural mountains and everyone has guns in the house. Everyone up here know this so only a fool would attempt a break in. It is a rarity up here. That's not my opinion....it is a fact.

                              thanks for the heads up....

luckily for my my avant has got a missing water-turbo feed hose, no coolant and a flat battery oh and no badge on the front grill so it looks like a bogo 80 estate to all concerned...

To add which an a2 is in the way most of the time and now one will steal the Alfa for reasons I cannot fathom....something about reliability!....
