Alex, I'm in the same position but already owning the S2 lol.

I'm torn between trying to sort it and knowing i dont have the skills myself to keep the cost under control or being OCD enough to release it to someone who can....or finding a new shell and rehoming the engine which was rebuilt by DJones on here a couple of years back plus the other solid bits from mine.

How much is a decent respray these days. You know, windows out, everything touched up, base coats, paint, laquer etc or whatever they use these days. Mine was last done in 2006 and it was a fairly good job but got a couple of bits of surface corrosion here and there and thinking rather than take it to the body shop to have sorted, I might as well get the lot done. From memory, the receipt in the history file for last respray was ÂŁ2k.

I did the same and I am EXTREMELY happy with mine!

Had the Coupe Quattro and thoght the same thing, ERROR404... it will always be a CQ event when mine had an AAN, S2 badges, and lot of things as the S2 (except the 5bolts hubs).

Be aware I am not saying it was a not cool car... it was one of the best cars I ever had, I miss it really A LOT, but always wanted a genuine S// Audi so I knew there was a one way road to get there. As the 5cyl-20 turbo were VERY limited (just one S2, two 100-S4 and two S6-4a) I saw my S6 in best conditions, 148K kms on the clock, black and Limo. I had nothing to think about (maybe because the poor extras...no sunroof, nor heated/electric seats, tempomat but thanks to thins the car is pretty light).

Have it since 2011 and I love it every day more, and the best of it is it's reliability, the practicality of a 4door for long trips with my friends, and I love this kind of sleepers.

On saturday a '13 BMW 330d Coupè with two skinny people inside cried after a big black saloon with 4 people and all windows down overtaked it at a lot of KPH, tried to reach me but I left him behind...the distance between each other was increasing always more. I felt so happy I'm only chipped at no more than 1,4 bar of boost.

            Cheers mates

ÂŁ6k??? S*!t the bed, could get a new car for that. I guess inflation has seen off my ÂŁ2k job from last time. Get what you pay for I guess. Would be nice for everything to be shiny fresh again.

Sorry Alex for going off on tangent a bit. Hope you find a nice shiny shell or base car to work with. Your engine deserves a nice new home I reckon and like you said, sell the original parts off to cover the cost and end up with what you want for zero cash and some labour. With the amount of time you have spent on yours, what is a few more hours? You end up with exactly what you want as well. Complete no brainer.

Having been in the same shoes as you Alex i often thought about reshelling my CQ with a genuine S2 body and logbook. It would have preserved the future value and saleability.
So yes i definatley agree, if the right shell comes along i think it would be a good idea!
On a side note: Meanwhile the original CQ ABY is sold and paid for and in storage until the new owner (forum member) is available to collect. That will be getting reshelled with its new owner in the future into an interesting project car so the heart lives on. The shell wasn't exactly mint anyway.

Apparently i only have 5 days to bag myself a cheap RS2 bud ha ha. If I could shift mine I'd be buying myself a RS2, always had a thing for the avants anyway...

The Avant is the way to go. Always the way though, we never have enough money to buy the car we want when it comes up at a good price

haha, yes 5 days not quite the right timescale for me, need to get the project finished first!
Plus I need to start to gently lay the subliminal groundwork to bring Helen around to the idea of there being two coupes here... slowly slowly catchy monkey
