Just a heads up to a nice 25 year article in this months EVO. Covers an Ur quattro 1981 to the alps and sport quattro with Stig Blomqvist up the Col de Turini.
The new RS4 gets a preview suggesting it may be the 'Ur quattro incarnate'. Now how many times have we heard that from the motoring press !!
Clearly the RS2 was
Autocar had a couple of pages about the 25th Anniversary of the Q a coupleof weeks back with an interview with Stig about driving the S1 up the torini, some excellent pictures, will try and get my scanner working and post a link to it shortly.
There has not been a proper replacement for the Ur quattro. The RS2's silly marketing led tie-up with Porsche and its shape make it unworthy of the title. If only Audi had made a pumped up wide-body and lightweight 300+bhp S2 that could actually handle, then we would have had a winner. The RS2 was great in its own right, but certainly no inheriter of the Ur throne. The RS4 comes closest, but again it's overweight and not exactly a sports car. The true Ur quattro replacement (if it ever comes) should be all alloy - light, quattro, a coupe, should sound frightening and put expensive supercars to shame. Like the old quattro.
