  • Recaro resurrection

I recently acquired a pair of Recaro seats. They were in Charlie's (Cardcrash) RS2 which was sadly written off after it rolled. The passenger seat is in very good order and cleaned up nicely. However, the drivers seat is badly bent in the base, back and runner. The leather did somehow escape unscathed.
I stripped everything down to assess what could be 're used. After much head scratching, I decided the base and back were beyond repair. Recaro seats are welded and riveted together which makes disassembled more difficult. The reclining mechanism in the back was completely mangled and the base so bent, not even Urigella would be able to fix it .
And ad here didn't turn up spare parts.
I noticed an advert on eBay for wanted any Recaro seats. Dropped the guy a line and he was very helpful. No RS2 or Cabbie Recaros, but he did have a Ford base and back that should work. They were duly purchased.
On arrival, a quick inspection revealed that they would need some considerable work to convert. The side bolster supports are smaller, the base bolster supports are different and the back adjustment mechanism is different. They will work with a little cutting, welding and head scratching
Pics conning shortly. We need a tea emoji

    A bent runner

    A very bent base

    A very bent back

    The replacement base

Let the cutting and welding begin.

Someone has been here before me!

Base and back done. I just need to find a way to get the runner back in shape now.

I don’t suppose anyone has one knocking about?

No, just for a moment. I'm back on it now.
I cut the small welds out that hold the legs on and have 're shaped them off the frame on our old anvil. I just need to fit in the car runners to check I have the width correct, then I can weld in new supports ( which were very bent). Getting there hopefully

                    Runner frame back together.

I put a stronger support on the left side.
Test fitted in my car and all good. Now I just need to put everything back together. Tea emoji

Good work there, especially from what they was like after the accident. Lmk if your planning on getting rid of them.

You can get the non electric versions of these every so often. I picked up a pair a while ago to have retrimmed.

Thanks David. I already have a few people interested. These seats are getting hard to find.

Just happen to stumble on this thread, I'm really glad you got them sorted. I knew it was going to be a pain but hell you put some work into this! I'd had as much of a look as I could without stripping the drivers seat down and came to the conclusion that the base would almost certainly need replacing but wasn't 100% sure. Though I thought the back should have straighted out, obviously I was wrong. As I said am really glad you got that seat fixed, don't think I'd have had the patience.
