  • Rear N/S Drive shaft removal, how?

    Hi everyone,

Recently back in RS2 ownership since September, I bought back the car I sold in 2011. Should never have sold it....

I need some advice on removing the N/S rear axle and CV joint. The O/S came off easily once, six bolts and pull. However the N/S will not come off in the same way, what am I missing here?

    Photo for clarity.

    Thanks,

As long as you've removed all six bolt's then all it will require is good whack with a rubber mallet or even a lump of wood will do, they can stick into the cup in the flange a surprising amount.

Glad you've gotten your car back.

Mine were well and truly welded in place. In the end I used a old but sharp wood chisel, It's make a mark in the metal but nothing was working to remove it.

Rotate and whack, rotate, whack etc. Soft copper mallet is good.

Copper headed mallet is what I use Dave, being Mr Retro I have A GWR one from 1911 I picked up in a junk shop as part of job lot of old hammers along with some fine brass gun smith's ones, think I paid £40 for eight different tools. Bargain.

But as not everyone has one to hand a lump hammer and a short length of 2" X 2" will do the same job. As Lee says sometimes they can be well stuck in place so give it clout in one spot, rotate 180 degrees and give it another good whack and so on, it'll come from there.

Done. Block of wood + hammer, success.

Dried up grease inside, so well worth it.

              Thanks, on the next job...!
