Cheers guys as Van's go it's pretty dam good and being the non turbo version mean it's less likely to go wrong, I'm not after speed just want basic reliability.
Had a good chat with the current owner last night, I can tell straight away if a person from Wales is someone I wish to conduct business with and he sounded really genuine. It's been parked up for a few weeks as he's got a new van, It got an MOT last November, haven't checked the history yet but that does't really matter. The mileage seems genuine and he live in a posh part of Cardiff so I reckon it'll serve me well.
And its the 2.0 which is far far far more reliable than the 1.6
Cheer's yeah it's pretty good as work vans go, see much, much worse.
i wouldn't have bid on the 1.6, their terrible for reliability. it was a spur of the moment purchase, logged onto eBay and had less than 10 minuteness to decide what to do, looked like what I was after so i bid £700 with a couple of seconds to go and won.
The van was great however that is now moot as the engine bay combusted in some order about 30 miles back, just off the duel carriageway thank God
A Dyno Rod van stopped within a min or two, and he guy was seriously on the ball.
Between us we managed to keep the fire to just the engine area which is now destroyed, however I badly burnt my right arm and fingers.,from the battery exploding, which was hell of bang
All in all a most unwelcome event.]!!!
Thankfully my 8 years no claim is protected and they have value of the Caddy at £2350 on my policy so will save the pre conflagration photo's from the listing to use to back up my claim.
Somewhat annoying the fuel tank was well over half full and it had a recent battery.
The oil warning light would flash along with beeping but this didn't bother me as normally the oil will smell of fuel if there's a leak in the head plus it would run rough if that was the case. And the van ran perfectly, I let it get to full operational temperature and everything was still fine with no raise or drop in oil level.
Be this y lesson learnt, do no purchase a VAG car manufactured after 2000, my A4 is that year so right on the cut off.
I've sustained a nasty burn to my right arm and my fingers got a good roasting when the battery exploded.
Normally, I'd get the salvage back, 100%!!!
But given it;s value is clearly stated as £2350 I simply can't be bothered. I have £100 excess on that part of to the policy, thankfully I hit every bell and whistle attached to the policy when I took it out just to be on safe side so hopefully I should come out of this better off than when I started.
Lancaster Insurance have been nothing short of excellent and I should get courtesy car tomorrow until get a replacement van. Very professional indeed.
Thank you all for your kind words. It was a real pity as the van was in great condition an about as fast as non turbo 2.0 Caddy goes.
I've spent the last two days dealing with the insurance company and South Wales police for.
However my no claims of 8 years is protected and they value the van at £2350 so it's possible I may come out of this incident better off.
I've only just gotten a clear head, I must have been suffering shock quite bad and was no aware of how awful I felt. It was an extremely stressful situation and I sustained quite nasty injury's, my arm is healing well bit I've burnt the tips of all my finger, in particular on my right hand.
If the that Dyno Rod van didn't stop it would have evolved into a really major indecent, we managed to stop the the passenger compartment going up and if that caught there was pine tree's way to close for comfort.
But hey, I'm still in on piece... Somewhat bizarrely this indecent seems to have lifted my serious depression I've had to contend with all this year. So I'm happier and more positive now I've had that major shock.
A major bonus is my S6 interior was delivered this morning in great condition, just need's a clean I have slightly different plans for seating arrangements in my A4 and 80...
The A4 TQS fronts are staying in place and the black leather rear sets from the S6 fit the car really very well I'm using them in there, With a bit of a just of simple asdjstment of the catches and drilling some new hole's for the seat back mountings. they'll even fold down flat.
The two really sporty S6 front seats will go in my 80, there's a bit of welding involved making mounting points but nothing too technical. Also I'm much happier cutting and welding my 80 as it's already totally stripped
