Soooo Halloween is coming up, I've been in a rather festive mood. (yes, I know I'm early but with my schedule, it was either tonight or next thursday)

I carved a pumpkin and hope you all like it. (It's my avatar just in case you didn't twig)

Oh I know, but you should see my house when it's halloween. Pumpkin fairy lights, giants bowls of sweets, lit up pumpkins....any reason to have a party! (only difference is we don't go for scary)

Tronika: Oh, Impressive. Very appropriate for you and the season I'm sure!

Why, thank you for the complement Daisfunky.

I have to say I don't mark Hallowe'en's passing myself, but each to their own. I'm against encouraging children to beg for sweets from strangers which goes against everything taught them the rest of the year.

I also dislike the American commercialisation of a religious festival, however it is fun for children and teenagers and a good excuse for them to dress up and carve a pumpkin.

Religious festival? Hmm. That's news to me!

I have to say that I like the American approach to Halloween. MUCH nicer than here, where kids dress up like characters from adult horror movies and go around egging houses...

There's no stopping Halloween from coming round and being celebrated, so it's better to decorate and then you're not a target for the teens! *They always look for the bare houses to through eggs, loo roll at*

*shudders* Halloween sorta gives me the creeps, reminds me of the book Clockwork Orange.

We'll a potted history is that Hallowe'en started in ancient Britain with the Celts celebrating their harvest and the Celtic new year which begins on the 1st November, hence a new year's eve celebration on the 31st October, this was known as Sahaim. They also believed that the dead came back to walk the earth and visit family on the same evening and in to the following day.

During the Roman occupation of Britain Sahaim was Christianised by the actions of Pope Boniface and Pope Gregory III to become a celebration of All Hallows or All Saints on the 1st November, and drew similarities to the previous Pagan ideals of the dead walking the earth on that day. Hence All Hallow's Even was the night before when the spirits came out to play. Maybe this was a tactic to Christianise the Pagans of Britain?

Hmm I knew about the history of Halloween, but to be honest, I never considered it to be a "religious festival". I can't quite imagine having a lesson or hearing a talk on Halloween at church.

Still, I think I know what you mean.

Exactly, celebrating the dark side of the festival isn't what it is about.

saw a pic of this last night, love it!! I think the next challenge would be the front end of an R8. Might be a bit hard to recreate all those LEDs for the front lights, but would look very cool...

Or perhaps an S2forum pumpkin? The "S2" part is already there, just add forum and it'll be an official mascott
