VMS -> WNT (Cutler et al, wee story for all the computer scientists out there), anyway back to thread , game of two halves and all that , trying to figure out if I can slip a nice dissertation on exaflop strategy into this thread without too many people noticing, or somebody else citing Tomasulo's algorithm

my Dad was a DEC man for years.....i remember getting to see an Alpha pc and in those days they were mighty fast - actually did my work experience there too...completely forgot about that!
