Smokey and the Bandit I bloody loved this film when I was younger and I still do just made you wanna go and buy a Trans Am!!! 2nd film ok 3rd was horrendous!!
Totally agree with Kit, John Wick is one hell of a film and yes am a big dog fan but he deals with the baddies superbly well worth a watch
I loved the original when I was kiddy, as you say the second was okay but the third is simply horrendous
Glad you enjoyed John Wick as well, I reckon it's a great action/revenge movie, certainly an excellent example of the genre and I love animals, particularly dog's so the opening scene did upset me a little. However he does an extremely through job of exacting retribution and by the end (which has a nice touch for doggy people) you kinda feel he's more than avenged his loss. I really hope sequel is at least as good, got the same team behind it so I'm hopeful.
Still struggling to think of an all time favourite film....
I'm gonna put another shout out for Starship Troopers, what a brutally dystopian future we had going for us there! Lot's of spaceships, lot's of guns, lot's of young sexed up soldiers male & female, lots of deaths, a fantastic production!
...but also Robocop

Bullitt with Steve McQueen for car chase
Ong Bak for martial arts
Duel (1971) made by Steven Spielberg as an audition for Jaws is the best truck vs car suspense film ever
Cheers

Everything in perfect working order
Ok so I'm 3 months late to this thread...
As a person that owns over 3000 DVDs (both conventional and bluray) I can honestly say that I can't pick one favorite movie. I can't even pick five or ten favorites. I will mention a few from a several different genres though. Some have been previously mentioned.
Evil Dead was good but Evil Dead 2 was better but the third movie,Army Of Darkness, was the best one of the trilogy.
Bullitt was mentioned for its car chase but nobody mentioned The Driver starring Ryan O'Neal or Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry with Peter Fonda or even The Seven-Ups starring Roy Scheider. Ronin was brought up for its solid car chase. And it is a SOLID car chase. However of the vehicles mentioned, the S8 and the BMW, nobody mentioned the positively awesome turd brown Mercedes 6.9 that DeNiro and Reno are in. The 6.9 was the most bada** Mercedes available from 1976-1982. 417 cubic inches of German overhead cam, dry sump oiled, gasoline powered fury. They tipped the checkbook at 40K... In 1977!
Enough about that.
Monty Pythons Meaning of Life- Awesome
Terminator, great movie. Terminator 2, Really great movie....
For drama there's Magnolia or The Ice Storm
Boondock Saints is definitely worth the time.
Mad Max=cinematic awesomeness
Blazing Saddles-Can't say enough about it. "More beans Mr.Taggert?"
Ghostbusters
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi. Love them all.
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
Destry Rides Again- James Stewart, 1939
Footlight Parade,1940
The Muppet Movie
I could literally go on and on but I feel I've taken up enough space for now.
Aliens Directors cut
Leon
Starship Troopers
Jack Reacher
and Robocop Directors cut
I thought Mission Impossible Rogue Nation was pretty good too

Fight Club. Amazing writing, cinematography and acting. An amazing mix of humour and uncomfortable "wtf". Best story twist ever. It's easy to forget after you've seen it, especially years on, but that moment of "holy ****!!!!!!" two thirds of the way through was the best.
I have to say that I laughed out loud at Starship Troopers being rated as a top film. I totally get that it's tongue-in-cheek and it was great to see Dougie Howser MD (Neil Patrick Harris) as a telepathic alien bug monster soldier officer but I'm surprised to see it mentioned.
Each to their own though. There are plenty of films I like that others don't

Starship Troopers was a Paul Verhoeven classic much like Robocop and Total Recall. It brought cgi to the big screen (okay Terminator 2 did that) but this brought it to a whole new level, and I believe, at least at the time, held the record for most rounds fired during a movie set. It should and deserves to be remembered! And remember that spectacular fireball explosion?!? Love that film!! So much!
