    Turbo lag fix

Has anyone tried to eliminate turbo lag by using compressed air injected into the exhaust return. System involves a small air receiver supplied by a 12v air compressor fed from the intake filter plenum with solenoid valve to exhaust outlet. When accelerator is depressed solenoid valve opens and supplied compressed air into turbo hot side rapidly spinning up until the turbo boost kicks in. Compressed air system would work on a pulsed basis, replenishing the air receiver as soon as it is used. Would probably need an Off switch to disable for town driving.

The system is not a new idea but I wonder if anyone has actually tried it on an S2 or RS2 and does it significantly reduce the nuisance turbo lag?
    Cheers

Do you mean turbo air injectors (boost control) as in the article below??

No. compressed air is used to spin up the turbo before the exhaust gas takes over. Check out Volvo's power pulse system That shows how it works but could be made cheaply using available components

think "it is what it is" should be the way to look at 20+ year old turbos. if you want quicker spool go for a smaller, more efficient bb unit. you can get the 320 hp or so fro an rs from a small unit with practically no lag. alternativlety use the gearbox and loud pedal.

If that was true then nobody would ever mod anything. I am running K26/27 on RS2 achieving 410bhp and 590 No. turbo lag has increased a bit and it would be better for track days to reduce it as I struggle with heel and toe braking. Life is all about having fun

Has Volvo just cracked the problem of turbo lag? We take a look at its 'PowerPulse' solution to see how it works

no thats exactly the reason we mod. to try to get away from 20+ yr limitations the issue is turbo age and design. take a my7 golf r for example and its turbo and design. or a 6 to save pedantics on manifold and design.

lag will increase with an equally old and bigger turbo. i run a sc61 on mine.tubular, wganer etc etc. the best lag reducer is the gearbox. turbos are a compromise act. what i will say is lighter engine rotating assembly helps. i had pistons skimmed some yearsd ago and balanced. helps loads. then went from dm to sm on flywheel, reducing weight on 7a. bigg difference. put this lot in a lighrter car. saloon over s2 coupe bigger difference again.

still sticking by the turbo being the most influential part of a turbo motor for characteristics on power delivery,.

How about an electric turbo like Audi used...

This isn't an option if you wan't to go 1000bhp.

I’d guess this system is only practical with very small turbos.

I know that but we at talking 400hp on an old k27. I don't need to tell you there is a hell of a lot more to get to 1khp but I feel up to 500hp or so you can minimise lag with the correct turbo using modern tech

On your first post I’ve never heard of such a method? AL would help fast spool also has your car been mapped with this turbo setup? Or are you running a chip set?
