    2.8 V6 Coupe.

I am tempted by this; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-Coup...53.m1438.l2649
Seems a bit better than the lower BHP V6, hence not reaching silly price territory, yet.
Anything I should watch for or know about before proceeding more seriously?
    Thanks

It looks like a very good basis for a project. I'm told that the 2.8 is a durable unit. You can always keep an eye out for a ABY engine and upgrade it at a later date!

Yep, lots of possibilities, I was kind of hoping I might get into the V6 and keep it but it is the right shell for a 5 cylinder conversion and you can't beat getting the quattro element added in. I believe the V6 is heavy though and not very tune-able but it should have a good sound and with V6 brakes ans suspension surely can't be that bad?

the 2.8 is an OK engine. I had an 80fwd 2.8, enjoyed it.

tuning (if you would want to) is best done by adding a supercharger

Don't buy a V6 with the intention of converting it to a 5 cyl, I'm in the process of doing just that to a V6 saloon and it feels like there's a never ending list of obsolete parts needed to do a factory looking conversion. I didn't have the option to buy a RHD S2 or RS2 saloon and as a consequence I've spent years trying to source the correct bits. If you want an S2 coupé then save up and buy one, it'll always be the cheaper and easier option in the long run.

That car looks like one of the better 2.8CQ I've seen recently, I think it would be a decent buy. The V6 is lighter than the 20VT so I wouldn't be too concerned about the weight. It isn't easily tunable and what is possible isn't worth the cost in my opinion, again, if you do want more power buy an S2. The brakes are the same as an S2 with the exception of the master cylinder which is a slightly smaller diameter. The suspension is very similar between the two.

Looks a nice car, have you considered nitrous oxide ......for the money involved it would give you good performance only when you need it?

You can flow the throttle body and inlet manifold tracks but it's very time consuming for not a huge gain. I might do it myself one day. Not sure on what sort of gains can be expected but it's done in the States so must be worthwhile for those that do it. I have the heavy 2.8 final edition 80 cabriolet and from my experience of ownership if the engine has been well looked after, i've added new maf, leeds, iridium plugs and a terra clean it's nice and punchy extremely smooth and deceptively quick when using the rev range without a murmur. They have the same front callipers as the 2.8 cabby ie; twin pot G60s and again if in fine fettle stops the car very well and suspension is really very good. I believe the 2.8 front struts have beefier shocks in them over the S2 so not a bad performer at all!

OK appreciate the advice, I am considering it seriously but there is next to no time now to have a look, especially with the distance involved. I like the fact that the guy has done some stuff to it and he isn't over-stating how good it is or anything. I messaged him and got some more pictures, so lets just see what happens

Fraid not, jumped up about £700 in the last 2 mins, so final price £2707 and looks like it's sold. Ah well can't win em all, I will undoubtedly be older and wiser next time, cheers for all the advice and information

But an Avant or Saloon next time.

Not sure it anyone has done it, but I always thought a Rotrex supercharger would make the V6 engine perform a bit better.

But if V6 Coupes are going for 'that" much tatty ABY cars are definitely worth more than they used to be.

Try looking up the costs of cars on here about six or seven years ago, with people parting ABY's because they could make more than selling them for £2/3k. And RS2 below £10k.

An Avant would really be the best thing for me and I like the idea of the supercharger. Prices have gone mad the last few years, don't know where it's going to go next, cheers for the advice.
