Can someone please give me the outer diameter of the pipe on 3256 tool that fits inside damper, need to make up a locking tool. Cheers.

Well that did the job, still took 6ft of bar on a 3/4 inch ratchet and that was after first attempt with diy tool made from 2x2 box, which first broke some cheap Stiltons and then twisted the box section with decent Stilton. If they actually did an oem tool for ac cars that fitted block with one bolt I would not have wanted to use it for this one.
