  • My engine bay changes over the years!

Owning my old banger since 1997, there have been many big changes under the bonnet.
To reflect and for a bit of fun, here it is in its various configurations over the years.

The first rebuild carried out by TSR.
It was their 2nd 2.6 conversion and the first using K Star.
This produced just shy of 200bhp. Very good for a N/A engine at the time with bags of torque.

A few years after this, I sampled the power of a turbo and was hooked.
At the time, internet was not readily available, so the engine was built by a Cosworth mechanic using tried and tested Ford tech.
Reversed AAN intake manifold, 2 x Sierra I/C’s welded together, Garrett T3/4 Mapped by legendary Ahmed Bayjoo running Pectel ECU produced ~400bhp – and no lag!.

In the search for more power (silly me), turbo was swapped to the Turbonetics T61.
Big problems began here. Needed more air from the Inlet manifold, so custom items were made without success.

This first IM kept splitting no matter what modifications and strengthening were added.
Changed tuners which proved to be a disaster.
Their first try proved to be equally prone to splitting.

The second attempt was very poor copy of a good IM, but very poorly executed.

GTX35 fitted. Allegedly ran 535bhp as plotted on rolling road. I was promised early spool, but it did not start working until after 4000RPM. I was still running standard N/A 016 gearbox, so with the short gears it was completely useless.

    Back to original tuner lol!
With the help of Jyrki (Repo), proper Inlet and exhaust manifolds were fitted together with old T61. This all worked quite well. 493bhp, take off was around 3300RPM but ideally want power earlier. I think am harking back for T3/4 performance.

Just as more or less happy, bore damage due to water ingress meant complete rebuild.
Off to Mark at Automark in Stokesley. Decided to go for GTX3071 gen 2 which is supposed to be a replacement for the infamous MD357 turbo and build to DJones ur spec using 2 intercoolers.
    This is the result.

With the Wagner cast EM, flying around 3500PRM. Not quite matching the early spool of MD357.
Car is back in Stokesley for last throw of the dice for that super early torque.
EM changed to original RS2 item, 7A exhaust cam. The last bit is swapping over to a .63 exhaust housing which should arrive next week.
The red crinkle paint went off for some unknown reason. Mark repainted in black as did not have red available. Not sure if should go for red again or keep black.

    Car is mentally quick!

What some work over the years! I have a question about your gtx3071r gen2 setup. How many space did you have between the chassisleg and your turbinehousing? Was it a 0,82 A/R? Thanks

          Hi,
I was somewhat surprised to see new comments on such an old thread.
The work was all done for me by Mark at Automark up in Stokesley.
My car has be off the road for a while due to family issues. When I have some time, I will try and look that info up.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
