    Dilemma

    20230408_150206.jpg
Sadly made a slight error when reading about Speedo repair and the needle removal....
Can anyone shed any light if this is salvageable? I am looking at a few options
    1. Set fire to it
    2. Try and rewind the coil.
    3. Search for a Speedo repair and chance my arm there
    4. Set fire to it.

I am starting to struggle as to how to get out of this predicament.

    Any suggestions/help gratefully received.

    Unfortunately it's dead. BTDT
And just to rub salt in your wounds, the earlier cluster Speedo won't fit in your frame.
So your options are to look for a good second hand complete cluster or a speedometer of the newer style with white faces.
I have been experimenting with the new style cluster and it is possible to remove the needle without damage. You need very thin pliers the slide under the needle to hold the pin whilst twisting off the needle. Newer style Speedos have torx screws on the dial instead of flat.

A while ago I made the same mistake with later S2 cluster. I took earlier VDO speedometer from V6 as it has 260km/h scale, swapped faceplates over and it did fit. There was clusters made by UN4 that were different.

The sad fact is this speedo was taken apart several years ago to fit the plasma faces and it was noted to lift the needle with a paint lid remover. This cabbage failed to remember this and managed to knacker the speedo. Bet find a decent lighter to go with option 1 or 4!!
