New RS-TT to feature T-I5 engine...

Guys -
Just read this week's Autocar magazine and there's an article claiming that Audi is about to launch a range-topping RS version of the TT, which will see the return of a turbocharged inline 5cyl engine

The article claims it will produce 350bhp and that a test car was spotted at the Nurburg Ring last week.

Thoughts? Seeing as I was so obviously wrong in my assertion that Audi wasn't going to release a twin-turbo for the new RS6, this could well be true?

interesting - I wonder if it will be an all alloy version based on the tried and trusted IL5???

They said it was an engine that is currently built by someone in Mexico but that production will move to Germany - who builds and runs a 2.5 I5 at the moment, Volvo?

IIRC I heard it was based on an exsisting I5 used by VW in some of their export models Dan.
It'll be fab to have Audi using I5's again though!

THe article went on to say that a factory insider said the engine noise was "fantastic"...

Ford are running a derivative of the volvo I5 at the mo aren't they in teh ST..... Isn't that a derivative of the audi one anyway so all I5's are linked in some way.....

Oh yes, hopefully smae mounting points and gearbox mounting points then who knows, an easy 350bhp upgrade to the s2????

Would be interesting to find out some more about this and what it can do, probably be a while before one comes at a good price that could be transplanted into an s2 if anyone felt like that.

So why does a US-spec VW still run an I5, how bizarre!

Amused by the fact that the manual gearbox spec has a "clutch starter interlock" - ie. the car won't start unless you've depressed the clutch - can just imagine all those US drivers not used to "stick shift" lurching off when they've left it in gear
