    Smelly carpets!!

Anyone got any miracle product for use on my carpet in my CQ?

Cut a long story short, it was utterly filthy - i cleaned it using a carpet shampoo vacuum machine - its clean now, but it still stinks of mank and musty mould etc !!!!!

Anyone know of anything I can introduce to it to try to stop it stinking?! I've already put a bottle of fabreeze into it

    Ok, Kim and Aggie time!

Get some shake n' vac and some bicarbonate of soda (NOT BAKING POWDER). Sprinkle the soda and agitate into the carpet with your hand, then do the same with the shake n' vac. Leave this for about 10 minutes and vacuum off.

Repeat this 3 times or until the smell is gone. Don't bother with fancy chemicals etc. I find that febreeze is ok for a bit but then the febreeze smell starts to remind you of the mouldy smell.

Did you clean it inside or out of the car ?

Reason I ask is that yu might have got water/damp under the carpet and into the soundproof pads - they are like a big sponge really.

Meguiars do an excellent odour elimator linky which is pretty good stuff. Not sure if its up to the task you need it for but it got rid of the stale smoke smell in my S2 when I bought it and I used it on the headling and carpets. Took a few applications but it worked brilliantly. Just a thought!

Think you might have to take the carpet out again and have a go at that mank looking 'underlay'.

A light spray of mold killer might work, just let it dry out completely.

TBH most of this stuff has bicarb as its deoderising/cleaning component.

Agree though that if the soundproofing is damp than carpet out etc. Silica gel is good too though.

ok to elaborate - the entire interior was stripped out, dryed cleaned and put back in..
The windscreen was leaking around the A-pillar trims and i resealed that.

So everything in there is bone dry, just smells manky!!!

Might try the shake & vac technique - or i might rip the carpet out again and burn it!!

Try to find out which one smells, carpet or underlay. Could always strip the unlay out and lose some weight? if its this that smells?

Or burn both, but not in the car!!!

You won't go far wrong with the bicarb and the shake n' vac method. The bicarb is the important part.

Tip, to replace they underlay use foam laminate floor underlay in about 5 or 6 layers to get the right thickness. does the job and cuts the noise down nicely too, also as a bit of a bonus it is alot lighter.

All my sound deadening is the foam stuff or the gold backed foam stuff fro laminate underlay, works a treat matey
