    Reason for deletion

I have deleted the recent thread on the suggested topic of S2 Avant Register. The reasons are security and simple common sense. I'm not suggesting for a moment that I don't trust who started the thread - its just that anyone could access this info without evening being registered on this forum.

Be careful who and how you share info like this as it could be used to clone your cars identity for a number of days, weeks or months before you are even aware.

Im sorry but that is plain daft.
You might of noticed that I asked people to PM me the information too, no one was forced to post it on the forum.

Just for the record, I had already found the registrations of well over 20 cars from this very forum, simply by looking through the gallery!
This can also be accessed by anyone, so how is it any different?
If you are that bothered about the security of these cars, I suggest you go through the entire gallery and remove any visible plates.
If you dont, it undermines everything you have posted.

I have seen many other forums where people have taken the time and effort to compile databases for rare or old cars, and there have never been any issues with them, but on here there is?

I am rather insulted that you obviously feel I am not trusted, or thought that I would giving out this information freely, so will not be returning.

It could be done as a database showing just colour and the owners name with no reg?

I think your missing the point here. Paul has said why he removed the thread, he also said that its not because he doest trust who started it.

I completely agree with his decision.

Its not like any one is missing out by that thread not being there.

          Im not missing any point.
He is suggesting that by people giving me the registration of their car, that there is a chance someone might nick an audi, then spend the time getting some plates made up to put on it

          Give me a break.........
I could point you to a thread that has over 300 Series 1 RS Turbo registrations listed and viewable to anyone who wants it.
RS200, Cosworth, Cavalier Turbo and various other rare cars too, no one has an issue with those?!
Yes of course it was easy for him to say its not cause he doesnt trust me, but he isnt going to admit that on here is he?
Funny that when I posted AGES ago asking if anyone was keeping a register for S2's that it was mentioned that someone had been doing it in the past, yet it was ok for them to do it?
I guess its a case of if your face fits on here, so wont both you all again.
Have fun in your nanny state sheltered forum

          PS.
A final touch of irony? s2central linked to 2 registers in the past...
Oh, and dont forget to remove ALL plates from the gallery and "showcase your favourite pic" thread in the members pics section, we wouldnt want anyone to see those plates would we!?
Maybe you should cover them up when you drive it too

There's no point in spoon feeding them the info.

And how many other cars were stolen that day?
I wonder how many of them were stolen because the plate was in a register somewhere?
Ironically enough, a thread dedicated to a single car that documents all mods and upgrades to it is brings ALOT bigger theft factor that having a number plate on show!!!

                  Use some common sense please

Dest, you seem to have a chip on shoulder generally here.

What's wrong Dude? the Admin Paul Who actually set up this site) politely deletes a thread and catagorically states that it was NOT a TRUST issue, and yet you are still like a dog with a bone.

There seems to be a small minority of members that have a conspiracy theory regarding the S2Forum.

                    FFS get over it...

I see Dest's point regarding the reg security issue but it's ultiimately up to Paul to manage the site as he sees fit. Equally members have the right I believe to question certain decisions. I've never quite understood the number plates not shown on the internet thing as someone could simply see your car in the street, at the shops or parked at the pub and remember your plate....

Mines on here I believe but i leave six dobermans sleeping in it every night amongst a ring of fire

Dest - get over yourself and read this again from the top...

I made it very clear that I reason I pulled I thread was for security reasons in that anyone online could see the info. I at no point suggested you were not trustworthy...

Although why owners would post such information privately to a relatively new member on here is beyond me. They are probably the same sort of people who foolishly post photos of their cars and othere in the gallery without thinking of the consequences.

Just in case you didn't know... Identity theft and car cloning is one of the fastest growing crimes in the UK. I know people it has happened to and its a total nightmare, so THINK about your actions on things like this and it would be good if you lose the attitude on the trust issue.

Go talk to yourself about common sense and read what was posted - this has NOT been edited. The other mods can vouch for that if you don't take my word for it.

dest to start slating a forum from what iv'e seen is for the cars and its people is i'm affriad very shallow minded. Paul is only trying to protect what people have worked hard for & i speak from experiance having lost my car for nearly six weeks due to a cloning ring in London, The cloned car had been used for bilking and the car came back in a right state scuffs on rear bumper car had deffo been driven as it was filthy, before it went away it was spot less( Kin button wearing airholes ) i was'nt a happy bunny. I think the majority of people on here would think twice about advertising their details.

Totally agree with Paul, just because some people post their own numberplates doesnt mean we should encourage it. I can't see why this has got you so wound up Dest?

I appologise for my angry rants earlier, and will now respond in what I hope is an easier to understand manner!

Firstly, I have no chip on my shoulder, I am simply a very passionate car owner that is happy to invest silly amounts of time and money into the car and scene.
I have already made some good friends from here offline, and on msn, and Im sure they will back me up in how much I do feel passionate about the cars and information about them.
This has been how I have felt for the last 5 or 6 cars I have owned, all of them being very rare, and now including the S2 I currently have.

You talk to me as if I have not got the faintest idea in the world about the risks I am inviting people into.
I can assure you that is NOT the case!
I used to own a silver Sapphire Cosworth, one of the rarest ever colours made. No one really knew just how rare though, so I spent ALOT of time, effort, and money in researching it.
Money meaning paying for a domain name and hosting for a dedicated forum for owners to get together on, URL stickers for the register, etc etc.

After that I had a Cavalier Turbo, again, a very rare car. There had been a long runnning forum/register for these already, so I offered to help maintain it.

Now dont get me wrong, I fully understand that car identity theft does exist, I never said it didnt. My girlfriends brother had exactly that problem himself.

With regards for wanting to keep a register, my motivations are simple; its a rare car and it is of interest to myself, (and surely other fanatics of it?) to find out how many are left, how many of each colour etc etc.
This can then be of benefit to owners and potential buyers alike.
On other registers I have seen/run/been involved with, there have been quite alot of occasions where someone new has appeared on the forum, and it has been possible to provide them with what could or would of been long lost photos or information on their new pride and joy.
EG, when I bought my Cavalier, I was given some pictures that dated back to when the car was nearly new, from 5 owners previous! No one can deny that that is something really nice to have for the cars history, if not for yourself, or by helping with history when you come to sell the car on.

I agree that I may seem a "new" member, but have actually been on here just about 2 years and have been doing alot of reading and research before I was finally lucky enough to get an S2 myself.
I had no intention whatsoever to post up a big list of registrations (although some registers do this without complaint) and at no point did I invite anyone to do so either.
If you are able to read my original thread about it, I clearly ask people to PM me the information!

So, on the whole, is what I am trying to do for the owners/enthusiasts really that damaging? There would be no plates shown on the forum, and obviously no one is forced to provide the information.
Beleive me, if I knew of an easier way to do it without needing registrations, I would use it, but without it there is the potential problem of duplication.

I suppose a compromise would be to use just half the plate, eg M510? I doubt there are any other Pearl blue Avants with M510 as the start of the plate?

I hope you understand my angle and drive a little better now.
