    80 cabriolet? Thoughts

What are your thoughts on cabriolets?

Had planed on picking one up but have second thought
Would you be more enticed to drive one if it were Quattro?

Never buy an 80 cabriolet for anything other than posing or cruising about (which they are very good at).

IMHO, far too much chassis flex for spirited driving.

Gonna stick my neck out here - I actually like them. Dunno about all the engine choices but I'd say the later series with automatic roof is nice - just a cruising car as posted already. Way too bendy for speed. Still quite stylish and understated. I'd go for a V6 probably (AAH engine) - can't remember if any 5-pot cabrios got built - that would be a nice warble with the hood down. The later ones have the 4-pot 1.8L 20V engine (ADR) which also appeared on A4/A6 - probably cheapest on juice.

I'm not a fan of any cabbys to be honest but the 80 cabby has an @r5e that makes me want to shimmie up behind it and dance like Sean Paul or one of those lads. Fine looking cars. I plan to buy one for the missus when I get my own collection back down to one.

There was one on ebay recently that someone on the forum had made with a 20v 7a engine, can you imagine the sound with the top down

the 2.8 V6s sound sweet and sophistocated - what you want with a cabby I recon. I'm trying to convince this lad at work to get one instead of an MX5 :ghey:

Ive got a 2.0 8v to keep my licence clean. fast it is not and it corners like a bendy-bus. Summer time top down cannot be beaten however.

Im sure there was a 5 pot 2.3 in the early days of production.

Powered hoods are great when they work, but do get lots of problems with the electrics.

2.0 is 1350kg unladen (about 250kg more than an 80 saloon)
