Pity some of the prices have dropped since then, but then I got mine at a good price. Now hopefully the prices will go back up.

              If i may interject here...

Splitscren VW Vans, I was looking through some old volksworlds the other day and for example a excellent 21 window samba would have been about £4k or £5k, now the same busses are changing hands upwards of £30k, and infact one example I know of sold for £45k...

I was talking to a well known VW Importer that mentioned you could see a trend in the prices of Splitscreen busses and the rise in house prices..And he had a few people that had remortagaged their house to take advantage of the equity that now exsisted in the house, to buy a mint splitty or to pay for a full resto...

One thing I have always wondered about is the price of Escort Cosworths, these seem to go for anything in between £12k and £15k, for a good car and they are very similar in age and spec to the S2 as well, or is it just a case of usual Ford collectors stuff being silly money MK1/MK2 escorts etc...

I find it strange why Audi's over say 7 or 8 years old are soo cheap, A8's, S2's, S8's etc...

I know what you mean, but the ford scene is a strange one...

I mean have you seen the concourse fella's at ford shows and on the net?

Have a look at the RSOC forum and some of the projects, they really are an inspiration..

yer, a weird bunch those Ford boys

I can understand the classic love, i.e. MKI MkII 'Scorts etc, but still, £15k for a cossie is not what i;d call value for money, especially compared to the S2 / RS2 etc...

For the looks, late spec shell, they can make a rep of a rally car and the late block engine for more power.

Tbh the money is good but i'd go for a sapphire 2wd which would be better and still give the same power if worked on properly.

Problem with the escort cossie is the following:

                      *Rust (its a ford )
                      *Fuse box prone to melting
*parts getting extremely expensive to get hold of even secondhand(remind you of anything)
*Stolen more than most people have had trustworthy girlfriends
                      *High insurance
*When purchasing a cossie (any cossie) even most of the magazines agree with enthusiasts if buying you need to make sure you have the same amount of money to do the full rebuild the car will need.

Tbh owning a cossie is like playing russian roulette, at least with an s2 then it will still be around in 10-20 years (hopefully)

agreed - even if i liked them, buying one is a BIG gamble.... rather have an S2 and £10k spare for mods

If I "HAD" to go for a cosworth i'd either as a quick daily driver get a sapphire thats been fitted with the 24v cosworth lump out a late granada 200bhp and so so strong. Or a 2wd sapphire, my mates picked them up before for around £1000 in good condition modded slightly but and this is a big but with the sapphire you definately have rust problems as i've not yet seen a sapphire that has not had rust coming thru on the inside on the transmission tunnel.

I remember seeing a J plate 3B for £7500 in 2000. But at the time it was a stretch to get my cq20v for £4500 and insure it.
"S2s are for the over 30s", I was told by my insurance broker at the time. But I couldn't wait that long.
