  • Trying to add/display images on eBay?

I don't use this much and I can't seem to display a photo of the item for sale.

When creating the auction it didn't ask me to attach any image files so I hosted the images on image shack/photobucket/MyEasyPics and so on.
Oh and when I did find a valid URL for the image(s) it fails to display them

Regardless of the url I enter, the eBay listing editor rejects the URL as invalid!

Is option to upload the images directly through the listing editor? I fail to understand what the problem is. Can anyone help?

You arent able to link to image shack etc since it restricts you doing that. What you can do is if you have your own webspace upload them to there and use them

To list them on ebay it is about 10p per photo

Thanks Greg I didn't realise that. I have some web space which I seldom use, I uploaded the images there and then tried a link to the image name(s).

For example I uploaded myimage.jpg to http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/mypage/ and then used http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/mypage/myimage.jpg. I thought this would work okay, but still I get this error. Could this be restricted too?

Note that the above URLs are just examples not the actual ones. The image size is less than 30kb.

The URL is valid as I can vie the pic via my browser fine. Any ideas?

Thanks Steve, I've just subscribed to that (£5 / month ripoff). I uploaded my images.
Copied the URL and BANG. Same message. I can't belive how much hassle this is.
          Have I overlooked something?

I'm rapidly losing my patience with this.

UPDATE. I tried using a different browser and belive it or it worked . What an absolute pain!
          Thanks for the help guys.

Ive used photobucket loads of times on auctions with no problems.
Are you using the link that starts with the <img> tag?
Have you put it into HTML mode when creating the auction?

I wasn't using tags no , I used a direct URL. Can you tell me how to put it into HTML mode? I never saw any mention of this when editing my listing.

              Thanks.

If you use a direct link, eg http://www.mywebspace.com/mypic.jpg you have to tell ebay that you are using html. The link needs <img> at the start, and </img> at the end.
You will then also need to tell it to start a new line everytime you need one, using <br> or <p> for a new paragraph.

Ive not sold anything on there for a while, but from what I remember, where you edit/descibe the item there was a tab above the box where the text goes to choose between plain text and html (might need to be in advanced mode? this is chosen when you start to list the item)

Hmm, The fields for the picture URLs begin http:// that is why I was using direct links.
I don't see any ref to HTML tags. II'll leave it be for now as it is working.

If I list anything again, I'll try to find plaintext/HTML options. Thanks.

Maybe it adds the tags automatically these days.
If you are creating the html code manually you need to have the <img> tags

Are you putting them into a html template page or coding it yourself?

Greg, I was just using the standard form where you enter text and picture details into various fields.
This must be the template page.

you can try making a simple HTML page for it. You can use NVU which is free http://www.nvu.com/

Then use it to insert images making sure the links you use are direct links to the images on your webspace not relative ones in the form of ../mypic.jpg but in form of http://www.s2forum.com/s2.jpg

Then in ebay goto HTML view and cut the HTML code between <body> and </body> then paste that into ebay and it should add the pictures in for you.

On the same page you can put the description text in NVU which will also be in the body and can be cut and paste. Note that any info on the template description page will be deleted when you past the html code for the description section.

It is worth uploading one photo to ebay for the gallery view if you are using that though, 1st 1 is free anyhow.
