    Avant Upgrades

    Hi guys,

Right some advice please from those that have them.....

It is an ABY and i am used to the 3B so give us a clue on

What to do to the avant I am shortly to get my hands on

    Easy one.....
    1. 996 calipers on the front (got em so no probs)

Add to the list, anything I can salvage off the coupe would be good..

Everything else is up for grabs guys, I will post it one here first and then it will go on the bay if there is no response.

Please don't bombard me with PM's as I am going to wait till I have the avant sorted before I send the blue one to its resting place, but for those who want to come and get bits I will have a stripping day so you can come and help me get the bits off and collect them at the same time......

    Az,

I'll do you a bargain basement deal on some lovely homely fries on that Avant if you supply the rear diff from that 3B of yours. No ultimate urgency here - just need one for a Torsen transplant.

Hopefully thats my spoke in first.

As for other upgrades on the Avant, I'd say the RS2 ARBs and dampers will be great - if not cheap of course. The brakes you know about already... 996 monos up front and the full-fat 300mm 8E0 approach works at the rear - again not cheap - sorry.

RS2 Airbox and IC are bolt on easy gains also...

    Cheers,

    Paul

I don't think so, no (from reading numerous previous posts but I stand to be corrected)

I have got mov-it brakes with 323x32mm discs and my avus 16" rims fit over them albeit not by a lot. Early type wheels u need a spacer

I say you need a spacer on 16" Avus with the 323mm disc and 996 monos with RS2 carriers - had a trial fit myself to be certain. There's plenty other threads on the subject... You really need bigger rims or to reduce disc diameter to something like 307-308mm and machine the carriers down a tad.

I have got the complete set up baught from QST in 2001 fitted to my car. Im not saying my calipers are 996 ones. I dont know what carriers either . All i know is they fit and work extremely well

I don't know of any problem with a Seat Bracket machined to suit the 314mm disc under a 16" Avus wheel.
The 323mm will just fit, but it leaves no room for any debris between the caliper and the wheel. A spacer would work, if you want to use one. On an avant it would help with the stance of the car as the rear has a slightly wider track.

Yeah you can only just get a piece of paper between the wheel and caliper but like i said, mine have been on for 7 years with no debris problems

Just thinking as if I can get them behind no problems then the wheels on the car will do me for a while, until I manage to get my hands on some porsche reps or something!!

Well the easy way to find out I guess is to take the front wheel off the coupe and try to drop a 16" one off the avant onto the setup!! That will be the teller won't it...

Best suspension upgrade still Koni's and stock springs or H&R??

                              323 an 16" don't mix, ask Alistair C http://www.slybadger.com/cars/s2/brakedetail-new.htm
