try and source the parts cheap and get the bodyshop to fix it? that way it would'nt be such a shock to the wallet.

like my boss always says "if you can get it fixed without going through the insurance then do it because thay are nothing but a pain in the ****!"

The quote on my car was £2200, the legal company handling my claim estimated value at £2500! I was informed that if the cost of repairs is over 60% of the car's value then it's deemed uneconomical to repair.

I totally agree that you shouldn't lose out due to some old duffer but it seems that insurance companies don't believe in fair play. I was lucky, my car was on an agreed value policy of £6k but it would seem that insurance companaies don't accept that market value and book value are very different things on these old cars. Did you buy your car that long ago? Did you get a bill of sale or receipt for it?

I would suggest that you look at the figures now and just try and make sure that you're not out of pocket. It might not be the happy ending that we would all like to see but unfortunatly the world is a bit crap like that.

        Just my 2 p below:-
        • You should be able to claim your excess back off the other person's insurance company, if you have legal protection then they will do this for you.
        • Don't let the car go anywhere, ensure that your insurance company know you want to buy it back and it's not going anywhere.
        • Do your best to make sure it doesn't get Cat C or Cat D against it if possible.
        • Any body shop will be able to repair the damage, fit a secondhand bumper or have the current one repaired if required.
        • If it's not repairable for decent money then you might have to think about breaking the car to make the money or selling it.

Really sorry for you, I know exactly how you feel as I had all this 2 weeks ago

I remember the photo of this ding - it just doesn't seem plausible that its 2000 worth of damage for starters. Obviously its gone to the 'approved' bodyshop as they will spec brand new parts everywhere and assume the worst of all things that might need changed.

As suggested by others, I would just source a 2nd hand bumper and bracket, go to a good local body shop who can pull out the dent and make good the rear panel then spray it all up. I'd say thats job done for approx 600 quid.

                  Is your neck really hurting?
I would be off work for a month with £2k worth of damage to the back of my car.

My neck has been hurtin its been very stiff but was told this was normal.

My manager has put me on light dutys at work so i dont **** myself up anymore

I work for a vw dealer and we have a vw/audi approved bodyshop in are group so i went to see the blokes there and they were having a look and pulled the bummper off to check under it and they said it will require the panel under the lights as it is to badly creased.

The people that are sorting my insurance out are have offered me £2500 they asked if i was happy with this. i told them to jog on, so they have told me to go back to my insurance company to agree a value as they cannot change there offer.

So just spoke to my insurance company and they want me to wait till this other department gets back to me before they can confirm anything

They want me to send them my V5, insurance certificate, MOT and service book

I have all the service history up together it was serviced at audi up till i bought it then was serviced by me and stamped up with a vw stamp

I have started to collect evidance that the car is worth more than this if anyone can help with wot i should do

cost me £180 for the complete rear panel from audi thats the light surround down to the boot floor or you can get it in three sections top middle or lower if found it easier to replace the whole lot
