Change in speed activation point on M25 cameras

    HI all
I just got sent this from a solicitor friend of mine - if it's true then be careful.

It has just come to my attention that there has been a change in the functionality of the so-called 'safety' cameras on the section of the M25 between J10 and J15 - A3 to M4 near Heathrow. This is the section that is very heavily populated with cameras - and generates a lot of money!

As from 15th February 2008 all the Speed Cameras in the Variable Speed Limit section of the M25 near Heathrow Airport (JCT 10-15) have gone digital, and the activation limit has been lowered.

In the past they were the older film-type cameras and were set at 90 mph when the Variable Limit Signs were not in operation.

The new digital cameras are set at the normal speed limit+10%+ 2mph (80mph + and you're taking a risk!) when the signs are not in use - i.e. National Speed Limit. The activation limit when the signs are set (variable limits showing) will be the same - i.e. 10%+2mph of the speed shown by the signs at that time.

Please pass this on to anyone you know who may be interested.

That is absolutely true, I have a couple of friends in the police force who have confirmed this.

I have always been driven fairly enthusiastically when they are "off" (No variable limit) must be more careful.

        Or

Change my route in that part to M3 - A322 Bracknell - A329 - M4... More fun that way!

Week before last I was flashed under a 60 variable, around the M3 Jn, the speedo read 66mph on a trailing throttle, whilst SATNAV and instant speed set match 68mph on the speedo to 62mph, and 66 with plum on 60mph. So fingures crossed... Incidentally do you know if the trigger speed of the 'flash' dropped too? The old ones flashed at a lower speed than they started taking pic's didn't they.

You have things sweet there. Here in Finland the goverment and the police made a test to see what would happen if you put zero tolerance to the speed cameras.

This was only on one road but if you drove 82km/h on a 80km/h limit you would get a warning paper to your home that you been speeding.

And they sed that the results was very promesing. ****ing idiots. Before the test this was on the papers so everyone who drove that road knew that the test is on. I think most people just did't drive on this road when the test was on.

They had all kind of fancy reports how the cars speed was much slower. Yes under the limit cos everybody would be scared to get the notice home.

It is very risky to play the add 10% plus 2mph now as they have introduced this to try and stop people using road angel / satnav to calculate their speed. Don't ask me why...

Theoritically it is possible to get a fine for doing a GPS verified speed of 71mph on some roads and although you can argue you it in court it will be very hard to get let off as if you looked at your speedo it will show you going faster than the speed limit.

I am not sure about trigger speeds, I shall have to check for you.
