    Air Con

Air con on my 3b blowing hotter than my exhaust pipe, went to my local specialist to get it re-gassed, he told me because the system is still on the R12 refrigerent he was unable to re-gass the system, and that i would have to get the air con system overhauled to accept the modern stuff. Any body else had same probs or is he trying to open my wallet

That is correct... R12 was made obsolete circa 1992 - its a CFC. You will need the guidance from a reputable aircon specialist to convert your system to run on the newer gas known as R134a. This also runs completely different lubricant than the old R12 system. The system must be completely drained of the old stuff, pressure tested and checked over before new stuff is added. I'd recommend also renewing the receiver/dryer when this work is done.

tell him to regas with RS24 drop-in. Worked fantastic on my 3b, no expensive conversion required either, just a different oil. Cost me £65...

      Cheers

Good point there Dave - I couldn't remember the alternative gas... but the lubricant is crucial. You got a good deal there. Suspect it would be more if leaks had to be tracked down and repaired.

I think there are a couple of drop-ins you can use but this one stays cool comparative to the R134a stuff. I was lucky then seals were in good shape even though i hadn't regassed in over 3 yrs.

Need to do mine actually now as i changed my compressor last year with the rebuild and didn't fill the system.....
