    Tig or Mig

I was browsing some old posts and could not clearly decide about which is best for me.

I have to now replace my old (poxy) arc welder and I was wondering what to get, machine will be used for garage work (ally, stainless, steel) but also occasional light building site works.
Could I get anything decent for £500?
    cheers

MIg is probably your best bet as it is very user friendly and you can adapt it to work on most metals/thickness's

£500 should get you something reasonable

if you go for car weldin, rebuild, and so on... MIG( aktuel mag) 160-200 amp... singelphase... if you have 3phase use 3phase ones....
nice spooles to that are ( bøhler/ tyssen type wire SG2H 0,6 or 0,8)
if you want do do some custom IM and so on a 200+ amp AC/DC tig......
ebay are your friend for low pricing....

This maybe a problem. Three phase is not usually available domestically.

If you want to weld ally stainless etc , light and heavy guage materials from a single phase supply . I would go for about 180 ish amp ac/dc inverter tig because you can use the set as a arc welder as well . have a look on ebay soome good cheap sets on there for £500 mig and tig.

If you are mainly welding steel then a mig is so easy to use but if you want to weld ally, stainless and steel then a tig is the way to go but is a little bit more tricky to use. There are some good second hand machines for sale if you look around got mine at a bargain price but it is 3 phase.

                In addition to above

Tig Is not so easy to weld ...
                Mig is much easier.

if you were doing exhaust manifolds, and pipes and the likes i recon a tig weld is much cleaner--But how much can you get a Mig/Tig for--then you have both.

                      I got mine from here - www.westermans.com and it's a Esab 200 AC/DC tig. Was £500.

They have some good kit and have good after sales service...

There's a dual voltage 250A Kempi machine for sale at the moment
